Your Role:

This position will lead to the discovery and development of new synthesis and purification processes for the semiconductor materials industry, with a particular focus on new gas-phase materials with unique and challenging chemistry. The selected candidate will be responsible for the design, evaluation, and laboratory-scale demonstration of new processes and methods suitable for large-scale manufacturing. The role will encompass various chemistries related to semiconductor manufacturing, such as hydrides, dopants, fluorine, and its derivatives, and dry etch gases.

  • Hands-on, laboratory evaluation of new chemical synthesis routes (synthetic chemistry)
  • Experimental design
  • Collection and analysis of data necessary to enable the safe scale-up of new reactions
  • Development of purification techniques such as distillation and adsorption
  • Application of various chemical analysis techniques
  • Providing technical support to scale-up engineering teams

  • The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee may be required to wear an air helmet, mask, safety shoes, apron rubber and Tyvek suits, protective gloves, safety glasses and/or goggles while performing in this position.

Who You Are:

Basic Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Chemistry OR Master's degree in Chemistry AND 3+years' experience as an R&D Chemist
  • 3+ years of experience in synthetic chemistry, chemical process development, or the synthesis of materials for semiconductor fabrication in an academic, industrial, or government-sponsored laboratory.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with gas-phase chemistry and the synthesis of gas-phase products
  • Experience with handling and synthesizing air-sensitive or highly toxic compounds
  • Experience with fluorine chemistry
  • Experience with conducting chemical reactions at elevated pressure
  • Solid fundamental laboratory skills
  • Attention to detail, particularly around safety and safe work practices
  • Strong project management, record-keeping, and technical communications skills
  • Experience in designing, constructing, and operating novel chemical processes at the laboratory scale
  • Proficient understanding of adsorption-based purification processes
  • Experience with analytical techniques including GC or GC/MS, FTIR, UV-Vis, NMR
