ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*

  • Manage the search and evaluations of technologies, testing and justifications of technologies, and planning related to budgeting and implementation of engineering projects.

  • Manage the execution of projects to ensure that the projects meet the defined scope, finish on schedule, stay within budget, and deliver the expected benefits. Lead project reviews and communications across the stakeholders. Ensure thorough SOP's are developed and published prior to the completion of each project. Work closely with the Industrial Engineering team on any changes to processes or labor standards. Perform Time Studies and use that data to create labor standards and/or determine ROI.

  • Stay informed of new technology and processes related to material handling, warehousing, distribution, and transportation.

  • Conduct direct labor studies using acceptable engineering practices to determine areas for improvement.

  • Assist in preparations of departmental budget, including material, manpower, equipment, and outside procurement costs and operate within approved parameters.

  • Analyze and evaluate distribution methods and standards. Recommend improvements (technology, process, material handling, etc.) to maximize workflow and spatial utilization.

  • Process design and implementation plans that result in improved service, cost savings, or improved quality of services.

  • Concept design, approval, justification, project management, and implementation of capital and facility expansion projects.

  • Provide support for an engineered labor standards program.

  • Update and maintain facility AutoCAD layouts.

  • Partner with Operations to develop preferred methods/Standard Operating Procedures for the warehouse.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Develop and design, complex and effective material handling systems/processes from a green field.

  • Drive effective design efforts while ensuring the highest safety, ergonomic & efficiency standards are met.

  • Ensure team alignment with the strategic Corporate Business Services roadmap and with site operational goals.

  • Lead the transformation of informal conceptual design ideas to formal detailed design.

  • Ensure the optimal placement for any new technology considering site space planning, product flows, and supporting conveyor network/capacities.

  • Ensure close alignment with the industrial engineering team to document and implement standard operating plans (SOPs) associated with any engineering projects.

  • Ensure all site drawings are maintained and reflect current conditions.

  • Full capital project accountability to include analysis of material flow, safety enhancements, capacity expansion, process improvement and optimization, cost reduction, assurance of quality and enhancement of accurate and timely merchandise shipment.

  • Oversee the project management for the execution of engineering projects.

  • Ensure that the team is closely managing project budget/spend, schedule, and scope.

  • Ensure that the team is providing regular communication to all stakeholders.

  • Ensure that thorough testing is planned and executed and approve the acceptance criteria for engineering projects.

  • Ensure adequate visibility of all projects to include progress, schedule, milestones, cost, and risks.

  • Ensure that the network can meet the needs of the business through design expansions, innovations, modernization, and/or process changes.

  • Constant searching and evaluation of new technologies that support the vision and strategy or that can improve current operations.

  • Drive innovation with respect to system and hardware improvements.

  • Ensure detailed analysis of multiple alternatives to define total costs, quantifiable benefits, financial justification, potential process changes, etc.

  • Ensure hardware equipment standards developed are followed.

  • Ensure that the team works closely with the maintenance teams to ensure optimal site integration and ability to maintain/support equipment after system acceptance.

  • Ensure close alignment with other partners such as software, technology, maintenance and controls teams where appropriate for critical collaboration and deliverables.

  • Point of contact for key vendor relationships within the fulfillment organization.

  • In partnership with site leaders and Operations, lead site wide process improvement direction- short and long term

BASIC AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE)

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience developing and leading complex automation projects for a large-scale Distribution network and successful demonstration of the responsibilities and skill sets such as lean six sigma, process improvement, ability to build engineer standards.

  • Degree in Industrial Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline. MBA or MS degree preferred or optional.

  • AutoCAD Experience is required; must be able to draft, concept and interpret technical drawings and blueprints of complex material handling systems and fulfillment centers.

  • Lean Six Sigma certification is preferred.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, JOB SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Strong understanding of Fulfillment operations industry standards and best practices

  • Strong understanding of building wide flow, through put, and capacity

  • Strong problem-solving skills and an innovative spirit

  • Understanding of fundamental statistical concepts

  • Strong communication & presentation skills

  • Ability to effectively interact with a diverse stakeholder group that may include front line associates and all levels up to and including senior executives.

  • Ability to get results working through others.

  • Supply chain knowledge with an aptitude to learn new areas/processes as required.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Ability to travel 20-40%
