Purpose

The Project Controls Lead reports to the Director of Project Support and is responsible for managing and overseeing the cost for engineering and construction projects. The group is responsible for organizing project cost elements necessary for planning, implementation, and timely completion and to support the development and construction of greenfield and repower renewable projects. They work closely with internal and external resources addressing multi-year cost plans during the construction cycles.

The environment is fast-paced, demanding, and has ever-changing needs and priorities that exist in the renewable energy development business. The ideal candidate is highly self-motivated, pro-active, organized, enjoys constant challenge and can work well individually or as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and construction of all Avangrid Renewables onshore Wind, Solar, Battery Storage, and Repowering projects.
  • Manage project controls contractors, set priorities for the team to ensure task completion.
  • Manage the creation, preparation and tracking of detailed project cost actuals and forecasts reports.
  • Monitor and advise project management on compliance in respect of the project contractual obligations.
  • Manage project scope to ensure that all scope changes are approved and properly accrued in the accounting system as appropriate per company procedures and requested by project teams.
  • Monitor and analyse project expenditures and availability control (AC) levels in SAP to ensure sufficient funds are available for multi-year commitments/POs.
  • Maintain accurate cashflow estimates and forecasts for Treasury to manage corporate liquidity and debt.
  • Manage the preparation and tracking of detailed annual group budgets and cash flow projections.
  • Manage all construction procurement activities with bid document processing and tracking, contract.
  • Perform SOX control review and address all deficiencies with necessary remediation plans.
  • Advise and consult with group management on the application of effective cost management techniques and controls (earned value, cost and schedule variance, estimates at completion, critical path analysis).
  • Support and advise on the definition of Project Controls and Earned Value Management policies, procedures and the standards required to deliver projects working with Project Controls Lead Schedule.
  • Responsible for coordination and management of multi-functional and multi-national internal & external personnel within the Project cost Controls function.
  • Identify and evaluate activities aimed at improving organizational or departmental processes.
  • Support project management with progress reporting including costs updates, estimate at completion, variance identification and opportunities for improvement/risk mitigation.
  • Inform management of deviations from established processes or cost updates which may impact business outcomes.
  • Be the point of contact for all internal and external audits.
  • Adhere to effective internal controls.

  • Direct, coach, mentor, motivate, and supervise project team members and contractors to take responsibility for their quality and punctuality of their assignments.
  • Inform management of deviations from established processes or cost updates which may impact business outcomes.
  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations.
  • Participate and contribute effectively to Internal and External Audit, serving as a key participant as issues or questions arise related to evaluations over internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Develop effective relationships with key internal and external partners/peers.


Skills and Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 7 years of experience in project management and control, project cost and forecasting. With fewer years of experience may be considered based on specific areas of expertise.
  • Experience with SAP ERP systems, specifically SAP-MM and CO preferred.
  • Experience in a broad range of renewable energy projects (wind, solar and energy storage) or other power generation development, design, cost estimating or construction.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to understand technical documentation related to renewable energy projects.
  • Proficiency using personal computer tools such as MS Office, Word, Excel, OPC, Primavera, MS Project, , Visio, Oracle-Unifier and other database managements systems.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-function team environment.

  • Ability to analyze problems, providing creative solutions when required.
  • Experience in managing projects controls and costs from development phase through construction.
  • Experience in managing teams of construction scheduling professionals.
  • Experience working in a team and delivering against aggressive targets and reporting requirements.
  • Pro-active and diligent approach to work activities.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize workload effectively.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate with people at varying levels of the organization and to deal with third parties, project teams and consultants.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.


Internal and External Relationships:

  • Develop and maintain a strong relationship with the rest of the Avangrid Renewables departments.
  • Develop and maintain a strong relationship with the Business Teams in Development, Construction, Procurement and Operations in order to understand their needs and to solve properly their requests.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships within Avangrid Renewables and Iberdrola to create and maintain an effective communication and implementation of all those best practices to be followed in the control and administration of renewable energy projects.
  • Provide support, as required, to the Development teams.
  • Requirement to travel to renewable sites and projects when required. Ability and willingness to travel 15-20% of the time.
