Director: Pre-Masters Track/Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) Certificate - DraftFACULTY POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Program Director & LecturerCOLLEGE OF NURSING AND HEALTH SCIENCESThe Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) at the University of Vermont (UVM) is seeking applicants for a 75% time Lecturer (12 months), effective August 2023. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications.This position is for the director (.75 FTE) of the Pre-Masters Track and Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) online Certificate programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders. The discipline is Speech-Language Pathology. A qualified applicant would hold national certification (i.e., CCC-SLP) and be eligible for Vermont state licensure in the field of SLP. Doctoral degree preferred, but M.S. degree candidates with teaching experience in higher education and administrative skills would also be qualified and considered.Components of this position include the management of the Pre-Masters Track and SLPA post-baccalaureate certificate programs(e.g., recruitment, student advising, tracking and recording student progress, coordinating content across the curriculum, coordinating internship experiences, internship hours tracking, staying current with ASHA SLPA certification requirements, staying current with trends in the field at the state and national level, coordinating and communicating with the CSD graduate program director to ensure content is appropriate for pre-MS coursework, program quality review, etc.). Teaching courses in the curriculum is a fundamental component of the position. Likely courses include Development of Spoken Language, Working with Speech Disorders (for SLPA students, with practicum), and Working with Language Disorders (for SLPA students, with practicum). The person in this position would be a considered a full voting member of the department and college and expected to participate in service as well as regularly scheduled departmental activities (e.g., department meetings, committees, CSD faculty/student events, etc.). The Pre-Masters Track and Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) Certificate programs are primarily marketed by UVM Professional and Continuing Education (PACE) and delivered in an on-line format. This position thus requires a high level of proficiency with technology used for teaching, communication, marketing, student record keeping, etc. Innovative teaching practices, accessibility, and a commitment to student knowledge and skills acquisition is paramount. Additionally, regular communication and coordination with PACE and CSD is a must.Required qualifications by the date of appointment.· Ph.D. or M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology, Speech and Hearing Sciences, Communication Sciences and Disorders, or a closely related field.· Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech Language Hearing Association and eligibility for Vermont SLP licensure are required.· Online teaching experience (in higher education preferred)The UniversityEstablished in 1791, the University of Vermont is consistently ranked as one of the top public universities in the United States. It is located in the heart of campus in Pomeroy Hall, a spacious building containing faculty and staff offices, research laboratories, and an in-house speech-language and hearing clinic. The successful candidate will join a department with tenure track faculty, clinical faculty, lecturers, and staff that are dedicated to educating the nearly 90 undergraduate students, 38 graduate students in our programs. Program offerings include an undergraduate major in Communication Sciences and Disorders, MSc. and Ph.D. programs in Speech Language Pathology, and two post-baccalaureate Speech Language Pathology certificates (SLP Prerequisite Pre-Masters Track Certificate; Speech-Language Pathology Assistant Certificate). Faculty have extensive collaborations with other departments and programs within the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, the Department of Psychological Science, and the College of Education and Social Services.The CommunityUVM is located in Burlington, Vermont, which is rated as one of the best small cities in the country.
