The EMBA is one of four MBA Programs at the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver in Colorado. Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Dean for Faculty and Research, the successful candidate will have responsibility for leadership of the EMBA Program and teaching leadership and human resource management courses in the EMBA and other MBA programs on an as-needed basis. Administrative duties include leading curriculum development, exploring new delivery modes, and engaging in student experience management.

The Academic Director is responsible for the integration of all co-curricular activities into existing classes. Extensive faculty and student interface are required, as the Academic Director is a primary point of contact for all students in the Executive MBA. The Academic Director provides continuity throughout the prospect, student and alumni experience and is responsible for achieving program goals cascaded by the Dean.

We are open to applicants from all business areas but prefer a focus on organization theory, human resource management, and leadership development. The successful candidate is expected to teach eight courses during the academic year, including fall, winter, spring, or summer quarters. The position is eligible for course releases and/or a stipend.

The appointment is a one-year term with a 9-month faculty contract, and is eligible for renewal and long-term contracts based on performance.

Essential Functions

Teaching: Teaching responsibilities include the delivery of eight courses (or the equivalent of 320 points, where 1 credit hour equates to 10 points) in organizational behavior, leadership, or human resource management. Teaching responsibilities may involve day, night, and weekend classes.

Teachers are expected to attend all scheduled class sessions and be involved in curriculum and pedagogy development, creating learning objectives, syllabi creation and management, timely and consistent grading, classroom management, student advising, student meetings and mentoring, testing/quizzes, instruction assessment, and professional development in educational topics. Teachers are also expected to be responsive in student communications. Working effectively and collegially with diverse groups of students, faculty, staff, and/or community members is an integral part of the job responsibility

Research, Scholarship or Creative Work: As part of maintaining faculty qualifications for accreditation, the Professor of the Practice is expected to engage in professional and/or academic efforts to maintain currency and represent the University and industry, for example, research efforts, speaking engagements, professional memberships, etc. Publications are not a requirement but would be highly valued.

Service: The Professor of the Practice is encouraged to be professionally engaged through either industry or academic affiliations and to help serve on committees, curricula design, and assurance of learning, and assuming other duties as assigned and/or needed.

Required Qualifications
  • Earned Masters degree in business or a closely related field.
  • Previous administrative experience overseeing a graduate program in business.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in the specificity related to this program.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of multiculturalism, diversity, and inclusive excellence.
  • Active in the business community (e.g., through association membership, consulting, publications, and presentations).
  • Strong English communication skills (written and oral).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects, have attention to detail, and work effectively in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively.
  • Ability to handle time sensitive/confidential information appropriately.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Earned DBA or PhD in Business or a closely related field from an AACSB or EQUIS accredited institution.
  • Proven portfolio of business skills, developmental experiences, and successes in leadership and/or human resource roles.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships with peers, divisions and senior leadership.
  • Ability to collaborate and be comfortable dealing with ambiguity.
  • Ability to create effective partnerships.
  • 10 years of professional experience in leadership and/or human resource roles.
  • Publications in peer reviewed journals
  • Ability to engage with industry partners for advancing the Colleges mission.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is UC.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $110,000 - $120,000. This position includes a stipend in the amount of $10,000/year to be paid in monthly installments.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
