Summary

The Compression Machine Operator I is responsible for operating the press work cells in the wet process or SMC/BMC processes to achieve the daily production requirements. The machine operator is responsible for checking the presses safety devices before use, and for ensuring that all the correct and necessary tools and materials are at the work cell to accurately produce product. The machine operator is responsible for meeting the quality and efficiency standards, while maintaining a safe work environment in either the wet process, or the SMC/BMC process. The Machine Operator I is responsible for effectively training personnel on the process they are designated to and trained on. Other job duties include clean-up of the equipment and the surrounding work cell area, including proper storage of all tools and supplies, as well as following all safety and company policies.
Essential Functions

  • Checks with Supervisor on control transition sheet (operator work cell schedule) to start in designated work cell
  • Checks with Supervisor on schedule and makes sure of correct SMC/BMC, or wet resin and glass, and materials needed to produce accordingly
  • Has proper tools, (scoop, suction cups, trim tool, etc.)
  • Makes sure safety devices are functional (light curtains, E-stop buttons, resin carts, etc.)
  • Must be proficient in "one of the three" machine operator processes (Wet Process, SMC process, BMC process)
Wet Process:
  • Places fiberglass cloth (Glass Mat and Surface Mat) and metal wire borders (if required) on molding table
  • Pours liquid resin into fiberglass sandwich, and repeats that process as necessary
  • Checks the weight of the resin pour against standard
  • Positions materials into press and operates press
SMC Process:
  • Pulls SMC to desired length to cut charge per standard, or prepares BMC charge on scale
  • Checks SMC/BMC charge weight against standard
  • Places SMC charge centered on CT Rubber sheet
  • Positions material charge correctly onto mold surface and operates press
  • Trims trays/covers correctly using safe practices
  • Inspects trays/covers for defects
  • Checks weight of the molded tray/cover against standard
  • Stacks trays/covers produced on cooling rack / trim table
  • Keeps machine and area clean, well-organized, and puts all tools and materials in proper storage locations
  • Must be willing to effectively train personnel using clear communication with a positive approach
  • Maintain reliable and consistent attendance, including being punctual, and dependable in order to meet the needs of the department and the organization.
  • Execute each essential duty satisfactorily in order to perform job successfully.
  • Follows all safety procedures required in work area, wears PPE as needed, attends all safety meetings, and reports safety issues regarding equipment or unsafe/hazardous conditions.
  • Performs effectively as a team member, able to work well with others, open to receive and give feedback, and treats everyone with respect.
  • Takes ownership of own work and behavior, accepts accountability for own actions, encourages solutions, and communicates status of work/projects.
  • Follow all department quality standards/criteria. Raise concerns and issues to immediate manager.
  • Able to understand and demonstrate Cambro company culture, display company core values (Safety, Quality, Respect, and Service).
  • Understands department's key performance indicators and contributes to achieve these goals both individually and as a team.
  • Other duties as needed or required.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Must be able to work overtime as needed, remain flexible and open to possible schedule changes in order to meet business needs.

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma/ G.E.D., or up to 3 months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to write simple correspondence in English.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish speaking a plus.
