As a Product Owner, you'll translate customer needs into a strategic product roadmap and oversee the development of features that align with business goals. You'll manage the product lifecycle, prioritize backlogs, and ensure financial resources are optimized for the best return on investment.
Job Description

As a Product Owner, you will be responsible for shaping the feature roadmap in alignment with customer needs and the product's technology strategy, while managing the development backlog and fostering stakeholder communication. Your role also includes financial oversight of product development, prioritization for ROI, and mentoring team members to foster a culture of innovation. This position will be full-time, onsite, and is a contract renewed semi-annually.

What You'll Do

  • Collaborate with the product manager to align customer expectations and translate these into actionable platform features that deliver value
  • Craft a feature-based roadmap that incorporates input from key stakeholders to ensure that development aligns with both customer needs and the overarching product technology strategy
  • Bridge the communication gap between the scrum team and stakeholders, ensuring that everyone is informed and aligned through regular demonstrations and updates
  • Create comprehensive epics and user stories, complete with clear acceptance criteria, to populate the scrum team backlog and guide development efforts
  • Define user stories with enough detail to allow the scrum team to accurately estimate the effort involved
  • Define the scope of the Minimal Viable Product (MVP) using business and strategic metrics to guide development priorities
  • Regularly groom and prioritize the backlogs of one or two teams, managing scope effectively
  • Offer support and guidance during sprint planning and ensure that product decisions and strategies are well-documented and communicated
  • Assess and determine the completion of user stories against the established acceptance criteria
  • Proactively identify and manage project risks, communicating effectively with the Delivery Lead and escalating issues as needed
  • Manage cross-team dependencies to avoid bottlenecks and encourage collaboration
  • Utilize tools such as JIRA and Confluence to generate metrics and reports that aid in sprint and project management
  • Lead by example, mentoring other product analysts and fostering an innovative work environment
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and operational practices to advocate for solutions that meet evolving business needs
  • Take on additional responsibilities as necessary, understanding that the job description is not exhaustive and that flexibility is key

Financial Responsibilities:
  • Oversee resource allocation, including financial implications, for specific products and technology solutions in development, prioritizing for optimal ROI
  • Demonstrate a solid grasp of accounting principles related to product capital and expense management
  • Identify and enact cost optimization strategies, aligning technology spending with business goals
  • Record and track effort hours by activity using the designated time management tool

What You'll Need

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in a Product Owner role within Software Engineering/Information Technology or a related area
  • Extensive customer engagement experience, with a focus on empathizing and creating tailored solutions
  • Proficient in tools and techniques for maintaining product health, reliability, availability, and maintainability
  • Deep knowledge of software product management across all lifecycle stages.
  • Understanding of the business operations of software products, including usage, future plans, and vision
  • Proficient in assisting customers with the installation, integration, and operation of software products or systems
  • Familiar with software development lifecycle methods, particularly agile methodologies
  • Strong technical background to guide and lead technology professionals
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with various levels of IT and corporate teams to develop and implement enterprise technical strategies
  • In-depth knowledge of IT estimation activities and problem-solving engineering issues with consensus-driven solutions
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Creative thinker who is well-versed in agile practices and other software development methodologies
  • Systemic perspective with a focus on innovation that aligns with the broader goals of the product ecosystem
  • A trusted collaborator who follows through on commitments and fosters business partnerships
  • Organized and efficient, with a sharp eye for detail and the ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines
  • Passionate, motivated, and eager to learn, with a knack for questioning the status quo and understanding the bigger picture
  • Proven leadership skills, with the ability to coach, mentor, and communicate effectively in any setting

Desired:
  • Industry experience in Travel/Hospitality is highly advantageous

Physical Demands

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state, and local standards
  • Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings, etc.
  • Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitor
