Corporate Process Engineer Specialist who will have requisite skills and experience to supply ongoing support to Remote Operations and plants related to the function and performance of MPC, HPHMI, Alarming, Portable devices, etc.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Process Engineer is responsible for providing direct support to maintain and improve the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), and other supporting systems used by Remote Operations and local plant operations to monitor and control machinery and processes. The Process Engineer ensures these systems and processes operate effectively, efficiently, and safely. The incumbent will be required to utilize proven process knowledge in, but not limited to: stone quarrying and sizing, grinding and drying process, lime calcining process, materials handling, sampling, testing, and quality standards, and in addition, analyze and identify continuous process improvement opportunities in these areas. This role is multidisciplinary and requires the incumbent to work closely with colleagues across a number of functions, such as process engineering, operations, project engineering and information systems. The incumbent will be required to maintain and continuously improve the Ignition High Performance Human Machine Interface (HPHMI) as per Graymont standards. This position will need to become proficient in tuning the MPC system once installed. This position will need to understand project concepts, controls philosophies, flow sheets, equipment specifications and layouts that incorporate Graymont and industry wide best practices. This position provides support for all Graymont facilities, including plants and Remote Operations Center (ROC) support.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Work safely and ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to mitigate hazards and prevent incidents
  • Engage appropriate support to ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental regulations and quality standards
  • Act as interface with the Remote Operations to ensure the process automation and controls is functioning as designed, and to support continuous improvement.
  • Act as lead in interfacing with other process engineers, EPC, cross-functional teams, and the ROCs as required
  • Maintain and modify existing SCADA systems at Graymont facilities, including the graphical HPHMI upkeep, alarm management, reporting, and communicating with ROC and plant operations
  • Provide testing and support for the Model Predictive Control (MPC) systems, human machine interfaces (HMI) in alignment with Graymont standards, ensuring documentation is up-to-date and change management processes are followed.
  • Work collaboratively with Controls/Design[WH1] engineers, plant engineers, Information Services and other internal staff
  • [WH2] Support the setup and maintenance of portable wireless devices used for process control at plants and ROC's.analyze data and present findings in clear written reports
  • Prioritize MPC uptime as a goal which includes but not limited to advising plants regarding instrumentation and controls systems, and in troubleshooting and setup[WH3] of instrumentation
  • Learn plant operations and existing systems (control, network, data management, etc.)
  • Analyze instrumentation, tune control loops and optimize advanced controls and expert control systems (MPC)
  • Able to work irregular hours or be on-call occasionally to support project implementation, and/or to deal with faults which occur at the plant or ROC operations
  • Must be willing to travel throughout North America (US & Canada) to provide hands-on support to plants as needed
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Degree in control and instrumentation engineering or other curriculum with controls and automation experience
  • Minimum 2 years' experience controls and/or process engineering experience in lime or equivalent industry
  • Demonstrated skills in specific control disciplines such as:
  • model predictive control (MPC)
  • distributed control systems (DCS)
  • programmable logic controllers (PLC)
  • supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA)
  • Experience with Ignition by Inductive Automation
  • Experience with Rockwell products, such as PLC,s drives, sensors, networks, etc.
  • Creative problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong team working skills, with an ability to motivate and engage others
  • Flexibility and an ability to compromise
  • Willingness to accept responsibility and make decisions
  • High level of attention to detail
