JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Utility Supervisor, the Process Assistant - Utility maintains and operates a mechanical power sweeping machine to maintain plant roads in an environmentally responsible manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Properly operate sweepers, performing daily pre-operational and post operational checks.
  • Perform light maintenance on sweepers. Submit major repair items to supervisor.
  • Thoroughly clean and maintain equipment's exterior, engine compartment, cab and internal dust collection devices daily
  • Pick up any visible trash in ditches, along buildings, in grassed areas and along swept surfaces
  • Maintain a safe, clean work environment in keeping with MSHA and Company rules and policies
  • Perform housekeeping duties
  • Must work a rotating shift, some weekends and off-hours
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Relevant work experience preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Must have a willingness and ability to learn new tasks and operate with considerable focus on safety
  • Ability to read, write and communicate verbally in English (meetings, telephone, & radio) preferred
  • Must be a self-starter able to work with little or no supervision
  • Ability to perform all duties in a safe manner
  • Maintain a positive work attitude
  • Ability to perform minor maintenance
  • Must have good attendance
  • Able to reason through problems, resolve said problems and/or relate same to others
  • Ability to reason through operational issues as they arise and resolve them or communicate with others
  • Preferred knowledge of equipment used in the manufacturing of cement
  • Knowledge of hazards associated with areas of responsibilities
  • Excellent work and safety record
  • Understanding of Lockout/Tagout procedures

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Lift up to 100 pounds and push a wheelbarrow containing 60 - 100 pounds
  • Ability to climb up to 40' on ladders
  • Visual acuity, speech & hearing, hand & eye coordination
  • Manual dexterity to operate equipment and use basic hand tools
  • Must be able to use jackhammer, shovel, broom and wheelbarrow for up to 8 hours per day for various plant cleanup tasks
  • Walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, balancing, repetitive motion, driving, and squatting to perform the essential functions of this production labor position
  • Physical requirements also include visual acuity, speech and hearing, standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, climbing on equipment, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, balancing and squatting
  • Must use proper Personal Protective Equipment as required

WORKING CONDITIONS

Must be able to work in all weather conditions (heat, cold, and/or rain). Must be able to work in noisy environment with noise levels up to 120 dba. Must be able to work in environments including vibration and mechanical and electrical hazards. Must be able to work any assigned shift. May have exposure to dust, cement, clay, gypsum, sand, diesel exhaust, lubricants, solvents, various fuels, etc. (See MSDS's)
