The Zoetis Veterinary Medicine Research and Development (VMRD) Diagnostics group is looking for a senior level software V&V engineer to help build the next generation of veterinarian diagnostics analyzer instruments and ecosystem for companion and livestock animals around the world. The VMRD Diagnostics software team is responsible for the development of analyzer instrument firmware and software supporting the latest technology and practices. This includes a cloud connected architecture which will support an entire portfolio of products used by customers around the world in an expanding and dynamic market.

The Principal Software V&V Engineer will be a leader on the development team that tests, verifies, validates and assures product quality of software that is a part of in-vitro diagnostic devices. The V&V engineer will also be responsible for design transfer following organization processes and procedures of the following types of software:

Embedded software and firmware, User Interface software, Application Software and Algorithms

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with product development team to build in quality early in the development cycle.
  • Collaborate with the team regarding features, product requirements, and design criteria with insight into the testing and quality of the product.
  • Identify real world test cases as well as boundary tests to ensure that we maintain a high level of quality.
  • Review product user interface for conformity to design guidelines.
  • Execute tests (Unit testing, Integration testing, and Verification & Validation) and track their results and provide documented verification in a hands-on manner
  • Develop and maintain a Bug Tracking system
  • Work with the development team to resolve bugs/issues. Find, isolate, document, regress, and track bugs through resolution
  • Learn the team's development process and help the team to streamline and continuously improve its process.
  • Interpret and report testing results, and be a vocal proponent for quality in every phase of the development process.
  • Collaborate and interface with Quality and Compliance teams.
  • Work with multiple product development sites, both internal and external, domestic and international
  • Adapt when changes in the business environment dictate changes in priorities to meet the customer needs.
  • Interact extensively with counterparts on cross-functional project teams, including Zoetis Commerical Development, Product Management, Global Manufacturing and Supply, and Information Services to ensure aligment of diagnostic R&D software development and release strategy with internal and external requirements, and to ensure that the delivered products will meet customer needs and drive value for Zoetis.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field. Advanced degree (MS/PhD) preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in software development and testing processes of commercial software; strong preference for medical device or diagnostic device software experience.
  • Must understand the Software Product Development Cycle and the crucial role of V&V and quality assurance in that cycle.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with the software design engineers from product concept through product introduction.
  • Experience in testing (Unit testing and Integration testing) and verification & validation of embedded software systems
  • Experience in creating and executing software test and V&V protocols, and creating software test and V&V reports
  • Experience with Atlassian products, requirements management, and traceability tools a plus
  • Experience in creating scripts for automated testing and V&V
  • Experience in software configuration management; tracking and controlling changes in software, and build management
  • Prior embedded software development experience using C, C++ and/or Python a strong plus
  • Demonstrated ability to influence self-managed teams toward positive outcomes
  • Team player who is detail-oriented, results-oriented and has strong organizational skills
  • Experience in Using and maintaining a Bug Tracking System
  • Excellent skills for troubleshooting and characterization of Software anomalies
  • Always looking for ways to improve self, processes, team and products
  • Demonstrated experience in working as part of a geographically dispersed team
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including negotiating and problem solving
  • Listens and understands others' points of view and articulates tactfully and respectfully one's own perspective orally, in writing, and in presentations
  • Skilled at situational leadership
  • Experience with an Agile methodology of software development.
  • Demonstrated experience in working as part of a geographically dispersed team.
  • Experience in people management is a plus.
