Job Summary

The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Murfreesboro is accepting applications for a Practical Nursing Program faculty member. This full-time position will report to the Director of Allied Health.

The Practical Nursing faculty member, under the direction of the Director of Allied Health and ultimately the institution President, shall be responsible for assisting in planning, developing, initiating and evaluating the approved instructional program for practical nursing students in both the classroom and the clinical setting.

Job Duties

  • Provide high-quality effective instruction in accordance with the program guidelines. * Facilitate student learning and perform eveluations of student learning for the program. * Revise, improve and keep up-to-date the instructional program as related to changes in techniques used in the medical field. * Examine, evaluate, and select textbooks and reference materials commensurate to the courses being taught. * Assist in screening process of prospective students. * Maintain a well‐organized, safe, and clean lab and/or classroom. * Advise and mentor students about academic and career goals. * Maintain appropriate program and student records for documentation and evaluation. * Complete Tennessee Placement Pro training to manage students' documents. * Maintain student health records. * Data entry (Excel spread sheets) to share with clinical affiliates for clinical rotations. * Oversee Student Skill experiences by coordinating schedules for nursing students at each clinical location. * Assist with Skill Check Offs. * Collect licensure pass rate and job placement and conduct follow up studies of graduates. * Respond to messages and questions regarding nursing program. * Assist in clinical placement of newly licensed nurses. * Strive to develop in the student a positive attitude toward his/her training, fellow workers, future employers and encourage good work habits. * Maintain student discipline at all times. * Start and end class at designated time. * Manage equipment and supplies assigned to the lab or classroom. * Report promptly any student offense which requires the attention of the administration. * Make frequent contacts with local industry and business for placement of students and keeping instructional material up to date. * Keep informed of current educational nursing concepts by reviewing journals, textbooks, and other resource material to remain cognizant of teaching methods, practical nursing techniques and procedures and responsibilities. * Participate in seminars, workshops, and conferences. * Perform other duties as directed and assigned by administration. - (Essential)

Minimum Qualifications

* Possess a current license as a registered nurse (RN) in the State of Tennessee.
* Must have a minimum of three years of recent nursing experience.
* Possess valid TN Drivers license.

Preferred Qualifications

* Three years of teaching experience in Maternal, Pediatric, Mental Health, and/or Adult Health Nursing.
* Classroom experience and administrative experience in delivery of workforce education and competency-based training.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* Knowledge of the principles and practices of practical nursing.
* Expertise in the clinical skills required of the practical nurse.
* Knowledge of the principles and methods of good teaching and supervision.
* Knowledge of computers including Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and other appropriate office software and applications.
* Working knowledge of network systems; knowledge of student information management systems.
* Ability to deal tactfully with the public and co‐workers.
* Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
* Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely, and convincingly, and to plan and direct the work of others.
* Demonstrated commitment to student success.
* Demonstrated abilities in leadership, human relations, communication skills (written and verbal), and organizational skills.
* Evidence of strong work ethic as it relates to timeliness of reporting, oversight of multiple ongoing projects, and the ability to work with industry/employers.
* Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
* Ability to travel with other programs within the consortium as needed.

Physical Requirements:

  • Walking, climbing, bending and stooping.
  • Work performed in office, testing center and classroom environments. Position requires the use of a computer.
  • Walking or standing to a significant degree; sitting for brief periods of time; be able to bend and stoop; use body members (arms, hands, fingers).
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the campus.

Salary Range: This is a full time, exempt position. Salary range $54,075 to $76,752, commensurate with experience and TBR/Tennessee College of Applied Technology salary guidelines.
