Craft Supervisor (FM/GF) 1.5

Job Summmary:

Manage and supervise the planning, lay-out, installation, testing and repair of all types of piping systems in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes and industry standards. Plan and coordinate the efforts of the foremen and leadmen under his/her supervision and motivate them to accomplish the work safely, correctly and efficiently. Work with or supervise other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Use effective verbal and written communication skills. Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions rapidly and accurately.
  • Plan, diagram and lay-out for pipefitter's work.
  • Read and understand plans and specifications, including orthographic and isometric drawings. Visualize two dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
  • With regard to that portion of the work assigned, develop complete understanding of contract plans and specifications and plan, lay-out, install and/or repair all piping systems in accordance with those plans and specifications.
  • Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures that arise or that may be encountered. Take corrective actions as needed.
  • Inspect subordinate's work for compliance with the contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies and explain and take any corrective action needed.
  • Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
  • Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds or more.
  • Move in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas. Full range of motion and flexibility.
  • Work up to a 12 hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions.
  • Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds.
  • Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
  • Be able to perform all of the essential functions of craft workers under his/her supervision. Perform task planning to safely and efficiently carry out all aspects of that work assigned. Train/teach safety practices, policies and procedures related to an employee's assigned tasks and ensure that foremen do the same. Gain a complete understanding of the scope of work and the related parts of the project. Develop a thorough understanding of the project plans, specifications and schedule as they relate to that portion of the work assigned; and review with foremen/leadmen at start of and throughout the project. Delegate and communicate safety concerns, work scope, plans, budgeted manhours and schedules to the foremen and leadmen. Plan and communicate with the warehouse, purchasing and supervisor to assure that an adequate supply of tools, materials and equipment are available. Monitor quality of workmanship and assure that correct construction procedures are followed and that work is in compliance with the plans and specifications. Review and approve crew's timecards for correct hours and phase coding. Prepare and monitor the progress of the work accomplished relative to the 3-week Short Interval Schedule. Provide on-the-job training to subordinates. Complete performance reviews of foremen and leadmen. Understand and periodically review project master schedule. Monitor productivity rates and review with foremen/leadmen. Prepare daily reports completely and accurately. Investigate accidents and act to prevent future occurrences; prepare accident/incident reports and review accidents and the causes with employees. Ensure that construction equipment is correctly operated and maintained. Ensure that Quality Control forms are available and being completed; review, approve and submit to supervisor. In addition, perform other job specific duties and have a basic understanding of the scheduling, material control and unit manhour performance, estimating fundamentals and job cost management systems.
  • Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (i.e. back-up alarms, smell of smoke, different colored warning tags, warning sirens).
  • Understand and implement lockout/tagout procedures in a safe manner.
  • Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards.
  • Be motivated and work productively.
  • Perform all other job related duties as requested by supervisor.
Experience:
  • Journey-level in Pipe and at least 2 years as Lead/Supervisor of Pipe Crew
  • Must have a working knowledge of pipe fitting techniques and methods for different types of piping systems and pipe couplings.
    Must set standards of excellence in leadership, safety, quality, and productivity for the members of his/her crew.

  • Completion of PPM paid TappiSafe Credentials (may be used for other Contractors/Assignments(
    • May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds
    • Must posses enough strength and stamina to perform the technical duties and essential functions as identified above
    • Must be able to move in and around confided spaces and uneven areas
    • Must have full range of motion consistent with age
    • Must be able to climb and maintain balance ladders
    • Must be able to adequately hear and respond to voice commands and alerts from other employees, alarms and other job-related noises
    • Visual acuity, depth perception and color discrimination consistent with that required to work at heights and on uneven surfaces
