Position Description :

The Forensic Anthropology Center at Texas State University invites applications for a postdoctoral scholar to join a multidisciplinary team on our National Institute of Justice funded project entitled "Forensic Fire Death Investigation: Investigating the Effects of Body Mass and Decomposition Sequency on Fire Burn Speed and Patterns and the Development of Performance Standards."

The successful candidate will work as part of an interdisciplinary research team to investigate how time, temperature, fire environment, body mass, and decomposition contribute to the observed differences in burn patterns and skeletal destruction in structural and vehicle fires. The candidate will also aid in developing and validating detailed training aids and performance standards.

The position will require self-direction, excellent organizational skills, the ability to oversee and manage data collection and to work effectively with graduate students, faculty, and other professionals.

Position responsibilities:

  • Assist team in developing and validating performance standards.
  • Assist team in collecting and analyzing research data.
  • Co-author peer-reviewed publications.
  • Assist the PI in writing progress reports.
  • Oversee data archiving plan.
  • Assist in organizing and teaching the annual fire death investigation course.
The position is subject to the availability of funds.Required Qualifications:

  1. A Ph.D. degree in anthropology, biology, forensic science or a related field at the time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience examining burned bone and/or with fire death investigation.
  2. Experience collecting and analyzing 3D image and thermocouple data
  3. Experience collecting and organizing research data.
  4. Interest in writing federal grant proposals.
  5. Peer reviewed publications or clear plans for an active publication agenda.
