Position Description

The Department of Applied Economics and Statistics (APEC) at the University of Delaware seeks a qualified candidate to serve as a Postdoctoral Researcher for a total of 2-3 years possible in the role. The successful candidate will focus on measuring ecosystem service benefits related to water management projects (dams, reservoirs, wetland mitigation projects, levees, canals, flood control, beach nourishment, and others) and calculating appropriate benefit transfers to existing and proposed projects in the United States. There may be additional opportunities to participate in research projects related to oyster reef restoration in the Gulf Coast of the United States.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to co-author publications, participate in policy-relevant research, and participate in professional conferences. This position involves opportunities to work on research with graduate and undergraduate students and participate in a multi-tier mentoring program. The successful candidate will work directly with Drs. Maik Kecinski, Martin Heintzelman, and Kent Messer. The position will offer a competitive salary that is commensurate with qualifications and experience. An attractive benefit package is included.

Qualifications:

Applicants are expected to have strong training and experience in environmental and/or resource economics, especially in the measurement of ecosystem service benefits and the transfer of measurements of ecosystem service benefits to other projects and locations. A background knowledge of ecology, ecosystem function, stated and revealed preference elicitations, and econometrics will be helpful. A PhD in economics or applied economics (or closely related field) is required. Strong writing and communication skills are critical as there will be multiple opportunities to work on write-ups of ongoing research and communicate with a broad spectrum of stakeholders. Experience with programming, especially web-based applications, is welcomed, but not necessary.

Anticipated Start Date:

September 1, 2024. May be negotiable.

Deadline:

Review of applications will begin on February 15, 2024, and will continue until an acceptable candidate is identified.
