Basic Job Functions:

The responsibilities of a Mechanical Engineer at Nucor may include but are not limited to: design and implementation of new systems and modification of existing equipment to improve production and maintenance processes, documentation for all improvements in the area of responsibility, providing technical expertise with regard to: mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, failure analysis/troubleshooting, annual outage preparation and scheduling, as well as large scale capital expenditure projects for mill enhancements. Due to the nature of their work, they often work in cooperation with other departments or teams. Safety is an important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead and uphold safety policies, procedures, and housekeeping standards to make safety a priority at all times.

This Mechanical Engineer will be located at a division in one of the following cities: Brandenburg, KY, Cofield, NC, Longview, TX, Charleston, SC, Blytheville, AR or Tuscaloosa, AL. By applying for this position, you will be considered for all locations.

Minimum Requirements:

4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering & Technology - Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, and repair as well as knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology.

Communication Skills- The ability to give full attention to what others are saying and communicating information so that others will understand.

Attention to Detail - Thorough in accomplishing tasks, no matter how small they may be, and taking care to make sure that expectations are met.

Problem Solving & Judgment/Decision Making - Identifying problems and analyzing or reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options in order to choose the most appropriate solution.

Independence/Teamwork - Ability to work efficiently with minimal oversight and being proactive with seeking responsibilities and challenges, while working as part of a coordinated effort with others to achieve a common goal.

This includes the willingness to face adversity and conflict head on.

Preferences:

1+ years industrial mechanical experience

Experience with 2D/3D CAD software, Solid Works, FEA and design

Experience with process improvement using statistical analysis
