DaVita is hiring a Patient Care Tech (PCT) to administer hemodialysis to our chronic ESRD patients, on the northside of Springfield, OH.

Dialysis experience is not required; we will train you!

  • Schedule: Work 3 - 4 shifts per week, alternating Saturdays.
  • Operational hours: 4:30AM - 4:00PM, Monday - Saturday.

PCT Job Description

The Patient Care Technician ("PCT") I Chronic position assists registered nurses in providing dialysis treatment for the End-Stage Renal Dialysis ("ESRD") patient. This position reports to the Facility Administrator.

  • Receives patient into treatment/exam area; weighs patient, takes temperature and blood pressure pre and post-dialysis; documents on all dialysis flow sheets
  • Performs and records vital signs and all other parameters of ESRD patients as per DaVita policy and/or state regulations; obtains blood samples and culture specimens and prepares for shipment
  • Collects patient data, including but not limited to: o monitors and documents status of vascular accesses o documents patient observations and seeks guidance when levels are out of normal range for ESRD patients o reports patient parameters to registered nurse as needed
  • Reviews dialysis prescription, notes general physical and mental condition of patient through observation and interview, obtains information and/or data to determine compliance to dietary or medication regimen; documents observations
  • Initiates dialysis via approved accesses using proper cannulation or central venous catheter ("CVC") techniques in accordance with state, federal, and local regulations
  • Performs clerical duties as needed which may include: filing, lab requisitions, scheduling appointments, answering phones, ordering supplies, billing, copying, faxing, data entry, maintaining patient charts
  • Sets up and monitors dialysis machines and reverses osmosis ("RO") water system for correct functioning, responds to visual and audible alarms and makes appropriate adjustments before, during and after the dialysis treatment, performs safety checks as directed by the registered nurse
  • Dismantles, cleans, and disinfects dialysis machines and equipment in accordance to DaVita procedures; performs appropriate end of therapy terminal cleaning and disinfection of the dialysis equipment
  • If performing reuse function, know and understand all procedures related to dialyzer reuse and complete required training as applicable

Requirements for PCTs at DaVita

  • Desire to enter the health care field to care for other people in need
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be comfortable working around blood and needles, mixing acid or bicarbonate
  • Flexibility and availability to work mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays as needed
  • Physical and mental ability to work long hours (some shifts are 12+ hours) on your feet so wear comfortable shoes! Our work ends when it's safe for our patients.
  • Willingness to train and work across multiple clinics within the territory as needed.
  • Health care experience a plus including: BONENT Certified, Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHT), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or Phlebotomy certification.
