Summary of Duties:

This position is responsible for working closely with the Assistant Dean for Health Equity and Inclusion (ADHEI) in creating, coordinating, implementing, and sustaining pathway programs to the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine (EFSCOM). The ESFCOM is required by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) to create pathway programs for the support and possible enrollment of targeted groups in our specified diversity categories. These programs will likely begin in middle or high school while others will begin in college. Additionally, this role includes assisting the ADHEI in coordinating diversity, health justice, and belonging efforts across students, staff, and faculty at the ESFCOM.

Essential Duties:

65% Pathway Coordination

  • Coordinate programming for longitudinal pathway programs within the state of Washington.
  • Assist in developing and delivering workshops, presentations, and mentoring to increase exposure to health professions.
  • Utilize technology to communicate narrative of pathway programs and maintain relationships with past, current, and future pathway participants.
  • Coordinate the implementation and manage the tracking process and progress for pathway program participants for continued outreach, mentoring, support, and evaluation.
  • Hire, train, and supervise student mentors to support respective pathway programs and programmatic needs.
  • Develop and implement mentorship framework for respective pathway programs; supporting the outcomes of the respective program.
  • Follow-up with the implementation of services, support, and resources to provide ongoing and holistic support for pathway program participants.
  • Work closely with the Assistant Dean for Health Equity and Inclusion (ADHEI) in communication and collaboration with applicable departments in ESFCOM and WSU Spokane Health Professional Programs for implementation of pathway programs and activities.
  • Communicate and collaborate with external stakeholders to develop sustainable relationships in alignment with the mission of ESFCOM.
  • Coordinate evaluation elements in pathway programs to determine potential recalibrations where necessary.
  • Assist with planning, implementing, and delivery of on-campus summer medical immersion programs for pathway participants.
  • Document all newly created processes and keeps pathway program processes updated.
  • Communicate all activities and issues with supervisor. Work on special projects for Assistant Dean for Health Equity and Inclusion.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with ESFCOM medical student volunteers for pathway programs. Travel to pathway partner sites as needed.

30% Inclusion Coordination

  • Assist in seeking and creating positive and productive opportunities for partnerships and relationships with internal and external constituencies to further the goals of diversity, health justice, and belonging within the in ESFCOM for students, staff, and faculty.
  • Coordinate efforts with the guidance the ADHEI to develop policies, programs, and best practices leading to a sustained culture of inclusion throughout the ESFCOM.
  • Participate in institutional and state professional training opportunities, including Inclusive Excellence training within the ESFCOM. Remain well-informed of latest knowledge and research in inclusion.
  • Assist in developing and delivering workshops, and presentations focused on creating inclusive educational settings.
  • Coordinate documentation associated with measuring progress towards performance indicators as outlined in the EFSCOM diversity and inclusion policies and procedures.

5% - Other

  • Perform other related work as required.
  • Innovation, best practices, and passion projects to advance efforts in the medical school and other ESFCOM programs where invited.


Required Qualifications:

High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of experience in the program specialty OR equivalent education/experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Program Specialty: Two year's of experience providing support and/or coordinating activities related to student services in areas such as admissions, advising, career counseling, financial aid, outreach, recruitment and/or retention within K-12, higher education, and/or community organizations.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills necessary to represent the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrated strong technology skills including digital storytelling and marketing.
  • Demonstrated strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office software including, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Demonstrated experience presenting to individuals, and large and small groups.
  • Ability to travel, including overnight, on occasion.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends on occasion.
  • Valid driver's license, and ability to maintain it, by date of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience increasing college preparedness for students in grades K- 12.
  • Demonstrated intercultural communication and competence working with people from historically underrepresented populations.
  • Experience coordinating student programming.
