Job Summary

The Housing Assistant (HA) serves the needs of the residents living in Apartment Housing, a total of approximately 300 apartments.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Checks to make sure the building is secure
  • Responds to noise complaints
  • Assists with fires and fire drills,
  • Responds to police requests.
  • Office responsibilities encompass the major portion of the work.
  • Responsible for securing the building each evening and performing an inspection of the building each night when the office closes.
Note: Present full-time and some part-time employees of Indiana University may not be eligible for this position.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required
  • Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University (or a student spouse) with a contract to live in Apartment Housing for at least 1 year.
  • Paid up in all IU bursar accounts.
SKILLS

Required
  • Proficient English communication skills.
  • Courtesy, patience, and ability to get along with people.
Preferred
  • Knowledge of other languages might be helpful.

Advertised Salary

The person in this position will receive full rent remission for their share of the apartment rent.

Work Hours

Total number of hours worked while on duty will be between 15 - 19.

Housing Assistants are responsible for office work and on-call duty every second or third week.

Duty-hours per week include:
  • Monday-Friday -- 05:00 to 09:00 PM
  • Saturday -- 10:00 AM to 05:00 PM
  • Sunday -- 04:00 to 09:00 PM, including holidays.
Hours maybe be different at 3rd and Union and University East.

On-call duty during the week is from 09:00 PM to 08:00 AM and the person on duty is required to be in the building. In Campus View and Tulip Tree one of the two HAs will be on duty and the other on backup during the duty week. It is emphasized that both HAs will have to be present in the building during the duty week. It will be left to the mutual understanding of the two HAs to divide (paid) office hours equally (16 hours each) as well as (unpaid) on-call duty hours.There will be only one HA on duty at 3rd and Union and University East.

HAs may also be asked to fill in during the day at times if they can, but this is never required. ¿¿¿¿¿¿

These times may be changed or modified due to the evolving COVID-19 situation.

This is a 12 month position and requires work in summers and holidays.
