About This Position

A great opportunity for gaining experience in Microbiology and Immunology with part-time hours. The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, is seeking a part-time Research Laboratory Technician.


  • Assists scientists in their experiments by monitoring and recording their findings.

  • Ensures laboratory compliance with applicable safety regulations.

  • Performs research support activities in studies on viral oncogenesis and detection of oncogenic viruses by PCR or serology.

  • Provides technical support to research activities including tissue culture, bacterial cultures, plasmid preparation, recombinant protein preparation, FACS, ELISA and PCR detection of pathogens, western blot and RT-PCR, immunofluorescence, molecular cloning etc.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. BSc in a scientific or biological related discipline preferred

  • One year of relevant experience. Prior lab experience and experience with work on BSL-2 containment or higher a plus.

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

  • Commitment to the University's core values.

  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
