Job Info

Description

The Department of Medicine at the University of Chicago seeks a part-time lecturer to develop and teach courses in the Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences (BMS) program (https://biomed.bsd.uchicago.edu). The position is part-time and renewable, but not benefits eligible.

One of these courses will include the core Foundations course sequence. The Foundations in Biomedical Science course consists of three one-quarter courses (Foundations I-II-III). The appointee will serve as the primary instructor for Foundations I, a masters level introduction to biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, immunology, microbiology, and pharmacology. Units on each topic will include human clinical correlation in addition to basic science teaching.

The Foundations course sequence is required for students in the BMS program but may also be open to other students with permission of the instructor. The lecturer will be required to develop (with assistance from a teaching assistant) all course materials, including the development and management of a Canvas Learning Management System course site. Foundations I will be held in autumn quarter every academic year. Courses run for nine weeks, with the tenth week for a final project or exam. The class is offered in-person on the University's main campus in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, IL.

In addition, depending on need, the part-time lecturer may also be able to teach other elective courses during the academic year. We are particularly interested in candidates who can flexibly contribute to the program's curriculum in biomedical sciences with the ability to teach a broad array of courses. The candidate must demonstrate potential to design and teach courses to masters level students at a selective university.

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must have a graduate level degree in a relevant field. To be considered, those interested must apply through The University of Chicago's Recruitment job board, which uses Interfolio to accept applications: http://apply.interfolio.com/140029.

Applicants must upload: 1) a cover letter, 2) a curriculum vitae, 3) a proposed syllabus that covers the course topic in sufficient detail, 4) a teaching statement, and 5) names and contact information for three references. Review of applications will end when the position is filled.
