Department Information

The Indiana Institute on Disability and Community (IIDC) is 1 of only 67 University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities. The Institute conducts research and training through 7 Centers: Early Childhood Center, Center on Education and Lifelong Learning, Center on Community Living and Careers, Center for Health Equity, Indiana Resource Center for Autism, Center for Collaborative Systems Change, and the Eppley Institute on Parks and Public Lands.

The mission of the Center on Community Living and Careers (CCLC) is to promote partnerships between schools and community organizations to bring about positive changes in the lives of individuals and families as they live, work, and participate in their communities. CCLC conducts research, training, technical assistance, and evaluation related to secondary special education transition services, post-secondary education, customized and supported employment services, post-school outcomes, benefits counseling, community participation, and more for individuals with disabilities.

Job Summary

  • Provides operational support for the Indiana Disability Resource FINDER database within the Library at the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community (IIDC).
  • Works with the director of communications, the library services coordinator, and the project management specialist to help create and enter listings related to the Indiana disability community in the FINDER database.
  • Cleans and prepares listings data to submit for processing and aids the recruitment, communication, and outreach activities for the project.
  • Works with a wide range of customers both within the IIDC and in statewide outreach situations to respond to technical questions regarding the database and how to obtain effective and appropriate information within it.
  • Chats with FINDER users via the LiveChat feature.
  • Creates and maintains documentation on reports and operations.
  • Exhibits the database at conferences and may occasionally be asked to present. Some travel within Indiana is required.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/ WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • Associates degree and two years of data entry or related experience.
SKILLS

Required
  • Extensive knowledge of state-run disability organizations in Indiana and how to navigate them.
  • Excellent communication skills. Ability to demonstrate the database to a wide range of customers in a public speaking role and as an exhibitor at conferences.
  • Maintains a high degree of professionalism. Demonstrated time management and priority setting skills. Demonstrates a high commitment to quality. Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment. Highly thorough and dependable. Possesses a high degree of initiative. Ability to build strong customer relationships.
Preferred
  • Customer service orientation and demonstrated ability to interact with a wide variety of individuals in complex environments.
  • Strong attention to detail including ability to self-monitor for quality control and accuracy.
  • Ability to handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously.

Working Conditions / Demands

This position requires long periods of sitting with occasional periods of moving around, pushing, pulling, bending, and lifting up to 25 pounds. It also requires some travel to exhibit and/or present at conferences throughout the state.
