Position Summary: This individual will function as an Advanced Practice Provider who, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team, is responsible for overall medical care and providing medical management for patients, exercising autonomy in medical decision-making and services provided. The Hospitalist will function independently and/or as a member of an interdisciplinary team to plan, deliver, and evaluate health care for the inpatient population. Focus is given to caring for hospitalized patients to manage care and length of stay, improve resource utilization, heighten patient satisfaction, and decrease costs to patients and the institution while providing personalized care.

  • Functions as an independent healthcare provider who, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team, is responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients on the Abdominal Organ Transplant Surgery Service.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of clinical expertise in caring for Abdominal Organ Transplant Surgery patients with acute and chronic illnesses commonly encountered within Abdominal Organ Transplant Surgery, including pre- and post-operative surgical management and post-operative complications.
  • Responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, health promotion, care coordination, and mediating discharge transitions for patients and families with acute Abdominal Organ Transplant Surgery health needs.
  • Ensures timely discharge post transplantation surgery
  • Responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, health promotion, care coordination, for ambulatory patients and families with acute Abdominal Organ Transplant Surgery health needs in the immediate post-transplant discharge.
  • Demonstrates an advanced level of clinical knowledge, communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, professionalism, and systems-based practice.
  • Works within an interdisciplinary team with administration, nursing, physician, and university faculty to assure safe, effective, quality patient care and to promote UIHC's educational and research missions.
  • Provides care within the scope of practice as outlined by state law, licensing, regulations, institutional policy, and practice agreements.
  • May begin practice after credentialing and privileging process has been completed by the UIHC Clinical Staff Office. Active hospital privileges will be required and reviewed on a semi-annual basis to maintain employment within the Department.
  • Work schedule is 40 hours per week; Monday-Friday with no weekends, holidays, or call at this time. A 30-minute lunch is included. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the Department.

Our multidisciplinary care team includes Advanced Practice Providers who address a wide variety of complex medical issues, including providing care for adult transplant patients.

Schedule: Monday - Friday: 8am - 5:00pm

Pay Grade: 7APay Structure A

Physician Assistant (PA)
  • Must comply with registration and licensure requirements as specified by the Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners which include graduation from an accredited PA educational program and certification by the NCCPA.
  • Active Iowa Physician Assistant license.
  • Active DEA license or ability to apply for such license prior to or upon hire.
  • Active ACLS certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective strategies for working with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
OR

Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP)
  • Master's or Doctorate degree from accredited Nurse Practitioner program and active certification as Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Adult/Gero or Family Nurse Practitioner by nationally recognized certifying body.
  • Must comply with registration and licensure requirements as specified by the Iowa Board of Nursing.
  • Active Iowa RN and ARNP licenses.
  • Active DEA license or ability to apply for such a license prior to or upon hire.
  • Active ACLS certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective strategies for working with diverse faculty, staff, and students.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Extensive knowledge of physical assessment, differential diagnosis, pathophysiology, pharmacology, management of acute Abdominal Organ Transplant Surgery patients.
  • Ability to function with a high degree of independence in a collaborative and multidisciplinary team providing care for highly complex patients.
  • Possess the requisite knowledge and clinical skills to provide care to the pediatric, adult, and geriatric population.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workflow.
  • Two years of relevant experience in surgery or critical care environment.
