La Rabida Children's Hospital is hiring a full-time Outpatient Medical Director to join our team in Chicago, IL.

Job Summary:

Our team is seeking an Outpatient Services Executive Medical Director to lead and direct an inter-disciplinary team in the provision of high quality clinical care to our medically complex pediatric and adolescent patients. The Outpatient Services Executive Medical Director will provide oversight of the operations for the outpatient clinic in conjunction with the Executive Director. The Medical Director is responsible for the development, implementation, and monitoring of continuous quality improvement, integration of patient-centered medical home practices and application of evidence-based clinical practices.

Essential Outpatient Medical Director Functions:

  • Utilizes advanced knowledge, skills, and expertise in pediatrics to implement policies and procedures for evidence-based clinical practices in the treatment and care of general pediatric, complex care, rehabilitation, and technology dependent patients.
  • Collaborates with Executive Leadership and clinic team on the systematic development of data metrics, compliance expectations, and ensures successful accomplishment of outpatient clinic performance objectives.
  • Develops and maintains partnerships with various external and Medicaid/Medicaid Managed Care agencies to foster resource development and promotion of La Rabida programs.
  • Ability to lead provider team members through coaching, mentoring and ongoing support via the identification and development of training related to clinical services, documentation, coding and other related clinic operational matters.
  • Supervises outpatient nurse practitioners providing care to ensure that they are demonstrating advanced nursing clinical judgment and competence consistent with evidence-based practice in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of identified patients. Monitors clinical outcomes to improve quality of care for patients. Evaluates and modifies the plan of care as needed.
  • Oversees all outpatient care including pediatricians and advance practice nurses. Gives feedback on well child practices for well and complex children.
  • Works with and supports the Outpatient Executive Medical Director in relation to administrative and budgetary matters, including, development and implementation of optimal staffing model for the support of clinic operations.
  • Serves as the Physician Champion on all programmatic and compliance/regulatory related initiatives on behalf of the clinic, including successful retention of NCQA annual recognition, JCAHO accreditation, ACO partnership, and all other organizationally related initiatives as needed.
  • Functions as a role model and leader by demonstrating professional oral and written communications, patient focused approach to care, and effective collaboration with other departments, leaders, and team members.
  • Represents La Rabida Children's Hospital at external organizations and participates as a member of related professional organizations.
  • Collaborates with educational leaders to ensure a good education experience for all levels of learners, including medical students and pediatric residents.
  • Provides direct patient care (in person or telehealth) as part of the pediatric care team under the clinical supervision of the Chief Medical Officer.
  • Provides clinical oversight to the flagship programs, including Premier Kids Program, for high risk children under 3 years of age
  • Deliver pediatric primary care, including same-day/sick care, well child and preventative care, and complex and/or chronic disease management.
  • 20 hours of direct patient care time per week

What we need from you:
  • Education: MD - post residency
  • Experience: experience in hospital medicine, critical care, or complex care preferred
  • Unrestricted medical license in Illinois
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrate knowledge and expertise in patient care (pediatrics preferred). Active member in appropriate professional organization
  • CPR issued by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross; Pediatric Advance Life Support
