POSITION PURPOSE

  • Required to follow all applicable safety rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in performance of assigned duties. Will also be required to participate in all required safety training activities, as well as be expected to report any unsafe conditions encountered in performance of duties.
  • Must provide current, timely, accurate, and complete data for all work assigned and enter into the appropriate database. (Operator daily spreadsheet/ sample results/ Plant conditions, Hach WIMS, timekeeping system, email)
  • Perform daily shift passdown and morning rack-up. Promptly reports any operational problems with equipment to the Maintenance Lead or Project Manager. Learn to inspect and become proficient at mechanical troubleshooting to determine support/repairs needed.
  • Performs manual labor including cleaning equipment, facilities, and grounds as required as well as properly dispose of waste according to safety and environmental policies. Maintains a neat and clean work area.
  • Performs other duties of a similar level and nature as assigned.
  • Operates vehicles, mobile equipment, and material handling equipment for operational and maintenance purposes.
  • Completes other tasks as requested by the Gypsum Operations Lead, Maintenance Lead or Project Manager.
  • Dependable, reliable, and predictable attendance is required.
  • Must possess a valid, in-state motor vehicle operator's license at all times.
  • Operators will be required to work days, evenings, nights, weekends, Plant shutdowns, any emergency weather event occurring during their shift schedule, as well as scheduled holidays or as needed. Responds promptly to emergency call-outs.

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operates Gypsum Plant and equipment.
  • Assist in maintenance activities as needed to maintain the reliability of the production schedule.
  • Provide feedback to Project Manager to optimize operations and maintenance schedules and ensures that machines, equipment, tooling and other accessories are properly maintained and in top working condition.
  • Assists in diagnosing and evaluating complex equipment and process failures.
  • Ensures that maintenance resources are being utilized to achieve project operational objectives.
  • Perform Training to insure the safe and reliable operation of the Gypsum Facility. Prepares all safety documentation to perform daily tasks.
  • Ensures that consistent maintenance and quality assurance procedures are followed in all assigned areas and shifts.
  • Ensures that uniform recordkeeping is performed facility-wide.
  • Coordinates work with Project Manager and assists in Operational management.
  • Provides leadership in achieving safety goals.
  • Proactively manages safety and environmental issues and ensures compliance with Federal and State standards including Hazardous Waste Disposal and Air Quality Standards. Ensures that issues are identified, addressed, and that risks are eliminated in a timely manner.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Typically spends 70-90% of time in an operations environment and 10-30% of time in an office environment. May need to work outside in inclement weather conditions and drive company vehicles to perform duties.

May be exposed to possible operations hazards including dust, fumes, toxic & caustic chemicals, rotating machinery, high pressure, hot or cold work temperatures, slippery surfaces, and water & electrical hazards.

Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Experience with heavy equipment operation
  • Sufficient reading, writing, communication, and math skills to perform job duties.

Knowledge / Skill / Abilities

  • Ability to understand technical material.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to enter data.
  • Basic skills in computers and data input devices, email, application, and office software.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and to wear breathing apparatus for confined entry.
  • Ability to work from heights (high reach, scissor lift, and structural steel)
  • The Gypsum Operator operates from site procedures under minimum supervision, performing duties both independently and in teams.
  • The expectation is that you assist with Site functions of maintenance.
  • The Loader must perform work and operate heavy equipment in a safe manner resulting in no accidents, property damage and in compliance with all environmental permits at all times.
  • The Loader must effectively communicate information to Leadership and fellow Plant resources, relative to the condition of the Heavy equipment and performance as well as troubleshooting and providing suggestions for Plant improvements.
  • Must also perform duties in such a way to result in an optimum cost-benefit ratio.
  • All employees have the responsibility to both the customer and their co-workers to do the job right the first time and to ensure the customer's needs are being met.

Required Certification / Licenses / Training

  • Employee Orientation. Standard Operating Procedures. Safety, OSHA & Quality Training.
  • Must stay abreast of advancements in technology and systems.
  • Forklift and Loader certifications.
  • May perform more advanced functions as part of training and development.
  • Must be able to pass Government Background Check to obtain TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Card.
  • Must be able to qualify for the DuPont Spruance Contractor Badge Certification.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch and enter confined spaces. Will be required to use ladders or stairs.

The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Requires close visual observation to detect process non-conformance and machine malfunction.
