Overview

Operations Managers oversee all aquatic, safety and cleanliness related areas of park. This person ensures compliance of staffing guidelines, water is safe for operation and that operations is flowing smoothly. 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Bachelors Degree in management, recreation, hospitality, or related field
  • CPO Preferred
  • OSHA Cert Preferred
  • E&A Instructor License preferred
  • 4-6 years related expirience 
  • Must be able to read and write.
  • Must be able to read English at a high school level.
  • Must be able to write in English at a high school level, including proper grammar and punctuation.
  • Must be able to use a computer to type basic reports.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Climbing, balancing stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, picking, pinching, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motion of the hands, wrists and/or fingers.
  • Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures.
  • Exposure to environmental conditions such as rain, direct/indirect sun and heat for extended periods of time.
  • Subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.
  • Subject to extreme heat. Temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour. Consideration should be given to the effect of other environmental conditions, such as wind and humidity.
  • Subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
  • Exposure to multiple, high-stress situation at any given time and must maintain a high level of alertness.
Responsibilities

  • The duty manager shift is very vital to the operation of the waterpark.  This shift includes but is not limited to overall throughput of the waterpark, guest concerns, opening and closing of the park, inclement weather protocols, proper staffing levels of all sub-departments, associate interaction and cross communication between all departments as it pertains to overall waterpark operations.
  • Aquatic safety is the primary function of an operations manager.  This includes but is not limited lifeguard and ride operator training, weekly in-service trainings and associate interaction as it pertains to proper 10/20 and environmental concerns.  The goal is to keep all aquatics associates at test ready level and maintain our goal of zero drownings
  • Safety inspections happen on many levels but are reported to the operations manager.  Managers are directly responsible for weekly ride inspections, monthly in-water grate inspections, monthly mangers controls inspection and duty manager reports.  They are indirectly responsible for all supervisor, lead, first aid, dispatch and park services daily paperwork.
  • Associate engagement is a major component of the manager position.  It is to recognize and reward in instances where an associate performs well and coach and counsel when as associate has an opportunity to improve and learn.  This also includes associate appreciation, parties and weekly raffles of large ticket items.  This will result in a higher AES and will encourage associates to come to work.
  • Park cleanliness plays a major role in the safety of the park.  Managers are required to notice, document, assign and follow-up with cleanliness projects throughout the park.  This includes but is not limited to general park trash, standing water puddles, algae control, tower cleanliness, parking lot and ditch cleanliness as well as general area and furniture cleanliness.  The goal is to maintain park cleanliness at a best in class level which will in turn increase guest satisfaction overall safety.
  • Financial acumen as it pertains to maintaining budgets versus forecast.  This includes but is not limited to budget preparation, daily/weekly/monthly budget versus actual review, assisting with P&L critique, meetings with Director of Operations to review findings and re-allocate if necessary.
  • The hiring and staffing process in key to maintaining optimal operations of the waterpark.  This all starts with job requisitions and carries through the interview and hiring process.  This requires constant communication between managers, dispatch and Human Resources.  The goal is to keep the park properly staffed for spring/summer operations.
  • Internal audits are a good practice for managers to achieve.  This includes but is not limited to CPR audits, lifeguard visual audits, ride dispatch times, supervisor presence inspections and overall audits of daily paperwork.  The goal is to maintain the park at 100% safety levels, keep staff at exceeds level performance and make sure that leadership is taking care of our line level associates.
  • Office time is important for all clerical aspects of the operations.  Since managers spend the vast majority of their time in the park, there are few times where office work must be completed.  This includes but is not limited to emails, purchase orders and ordering, inventory of supplies, audit tracking, first aid trend reports and many more.  The goal is to minimize time in office yet maximize efficiency while in the office to maintain park standards.
