Under the general supervision of the Operations Manager, works in a lead capacity and provides assistance in coordinating the operations and maintenance of a municipal class-4, 15- MGD conventional filtration surface water treatment plant.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / JOB DUTIES

  • Leads and trains subordinate operational and maintenance staff assigned.
  • Maintains records of personnel on duty, conditions, changes, access, emergencies, and other issues of note associated with the water treatment facility.
  • Monitors and observes operating conditions, records observations and data and diagnoses operational problems and takes corrective action.
  • Operates equipment manually and through instrument panels and computer terminals.
  • Performs routine lab tests, and instrument calibrations.
  • Makes chemical adjustments in relationship to water and process conditions.
  • Maintains chemical inventory; orders, tracks, and receives chemicals; maintains proper documentation.
  • Follows process control procedures; verifies and reports suspected malfunctions and variances.
  • Performs routine preventive and corrective maintenance, lubrication, and adjustments; troubleshoots equipment, recommends solutions and fills out work orders.
  • Logs, trends and analyses data and creates reports.
  • Assists contractors and consultants with specific tasks.
  • Assures work is performed in a safe and professional manner by following established safety, operating, and emergency response procedures
  • Ensures compliance with standard operating procedures and Federal, State, and local regulations. Assists in preparing standard operating procedures.
  • Performs related work as required



  • High school diploma or GED; Post-Secondary coursework in Business, Science or Engineering is desired
  • Experience within a water treatment environment with knowledge of the methods, techniques, principles, and practices of water treatment are preferred.
  • Possession of an Oregon Water Treatment Operator 3 certificate is desired.
  • Ingenuity and initiative are required to coordinate problem resolution, resolve conflicting priorities and to meet assignment deadlines within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose problems and manage remedial action.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills in order to interface with all levels of personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate, effective and easily understood written communications and reports.
  • Seeking strong PC skills with proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet management.
  • Proficiency in the care and use of all site specific, facility required PPE.
  • Demonstrated commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the Company's Code of Business Conduct and other Company policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to respond to 24 hour emergency on-call if required by site.
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check
  • Must demonstrate a working ability to use computer programs for process control, maintenance management, and QA/QC.
  • Requires knowledge of mechanical and electrical maintenance of water production or related equipment.
  • Must have the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot basic and routine process and mechanical problems in single or multiple unit processes and take action to correct the process problems by chemical, physical or mechanical adjustments to the process.
  • Requires good reading, math, writing, scientific, and verbal communication skills; a mechanical aptitude ;and the ability to read, interpret, and record data from meters, gauges, scales, panels, computer consoles, and other equipment.
  • Requires the ability to carry out verbal and written instructions; i.e., SOP's, work orders, other documents, etc.
  • Requires being self-directed to carry out tasks and assignments in a team or individual environment.
  • Must have the ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees
