CUMULUS MEDIA | DETROIT/News-Talk 760 WJR has a rare opening for News Director. News gathering and anchor experience are a must, but other attributes are just as crucial to be the next leader of WJR's historic newsroom. Exquisite creative writing skills. A full understanding and deep embrace of digital media. A complete absence of fear to lead or change, or to lead change. An unwavering focus on serving the core WJR audience. A sense of humor wouldn't hurt, either. If you have a vision of news for this newest of worlds, we are all ears.

Who we are: Our Cumulus Detroit radio stations reach over 1.6 million listeners weekly, delivering over 42% of Metro Detroit's total population, even more when you include WJR's booming regional signal that adds significant listenership throughout Michigan. Cumulus Detroit has Michigan's most well-known and beloved radio personalities and is the home of the Detroit Lions Radio Network and flagship for Michigan State University Football and Basketball. Those assets, coupled with Cumulus Media's robust suite of sophisticated digital offerings, give us all the horsepower we need to be the one-stop shop for effective marketing campaigns for our customers who range from local businesses on up to Michigan's largest companies.

CUMULUS | DETROIT currently features 3 stations in the Detroit area and surrounding counties. Our stations include: News-Talk 760 WJR-AM, Hot AC 96.3 WDVD-FM, New Country 93.1 WDRQ-FM . The cluster of 3 stations reaches thousands of listeners on a daily basis.

We're looking for a track record of success. Top candidates will be versatile and possess exceptional News Director, On-Air and web/social media skills. Digital and social strategies must be as engaging as on-air tactics and execution. The best candidates will be detail oriented with the ability to multi-task and react in a calm and decisive way when dealing with challenging situations. Excellent writing and production skills to image and brand your stations are essential. People skills and the ability to work closely with talent, department heads and a talented sales team are critical.

Key Responsibilities:

  • News anchor experience
  • A successful history of leading and managing a team
  • Full engagement and leadership of the WJR News social media/online brand

Job Requirements
  • Minimum 3 years' of successful experience and winning track record backed by Nielsen Audio results preferred
  • Strong social and digital experience
  • Savvy computer skills and proficiency with ratings, research and music programs
  • Ability to multi-task and the discipline to focus on what is the highest and best use of your time
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with air staff, departments and clients
  • Creative and strategic problem solver
  • A strong understanding of PPM / Nielsen Ratings and ability to interpret various kinds of research
  • Deep knowledge of current events and how they relate to the station's target demo
