Network Engineer

Candidate Description

Monitor network and traffic (IoT) devices using a suite of software tools. Handle all service degradation and provide triage to incidents associated with network and traffic (IoT) devices to diagnose and where possible provide first response resolution.

Candidate should have 3-5 years' experience in the Information Technology industry, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in a network operations center. Experience maintaining Network and IoT technologies in a co-managed environment. Vendor certification (CCNA) is preferred but may be compensated by experience.

Qualifying Experience and Attributes

3-5 Years' experience in IT

  • Troubleshooting knowledge of Cisco routers and switches and network monitoring platforms such as SolarWinds.
  • Working experience with Enterprise level ticketing system such as Service Now and an understanding of how to ensure ticket level SLA/SLO compliance.
  • Working knowledge of ITL.
  • Ability to configure and troubleshoot various Network Platforms including various Firewalls, Routers, Switches Management platforms (SolarWinds), and IoT devices.
  • Network certifications (Network +, CCNA) or equivalent knowledge.
  • Ability to interpret the information collected by network tools (e.g., Nslookup, Ping, and Traceroute).
  • Knowledge of computer networking concepts and protocols, and network security methodologies.
  • Knowledge of host/network access control mechanisms (e.g., access control list, capabilities list).
  • Knowledge of network protocols such as TCP/IP, Dynamic Host Configuration, Domain Name System (DNS), and directory services.
  • Knowledge of network traffic analysis methods to include NetFlow.
  • Knowledge of network, and operating system hardening techniques.
  • Knowledge of packet-level analysis using appropriate tools (e.g., Wireshark, tcpdump).
  • Skill in performing packet-level analysis.
  • Strong Knowledge of IP networks and communication including Ethernet, cellular modems, and transceivers (encoder/decoder), point-to-point wireless radio and RS-232/RS-485 serial communication.
  • Strong Knowledge of Virtual Private Network (VPN) security.
  • Working knowledge of Virtualized or Cloud Computing.
  • Working Knowledge of various Linux OS.
  • Understanding of Syslog and SNMP monitoring.
  • Understanding of Wi-Fi technology and configurations.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity and privacy principles.
  • US Citizen and must be able to pass background check(s).
  • Prior experience with software coding or scripting a plus.
  • Experience working with traffic devices (vendor-supplied software tools) of one or more of the following is a plus:
    • Dynamic Message Signs (DMS)
    • Portable Variable Message Signs (PVMS)
    • Closed Circuit Television (CCTV)
    • Radar and loop detectors
    • Traffic counting equipment
    • Wireless traffic sensors
    • Road Weather Information System (RWIS) devices
    • Traffic signal systems
    • Flashers/hybrid beacons
