GDH Consulting is looking for a Network Automation Engineer to work remotely.

The Network Automation Engineering (NAE) team bridge the gap between software developers and network engineers in the network automation space. NAE provides knowledge / context of the network (e.g. IP Addressing, Network Design & Protocols) to the development team and serve as an interface (e.g., scripting, training, data ownership, governance) to the wider network team for the development team. The NAE team one team among many that works using the SAFE Agile Methodology. The role requires interfacing with a product ownership team that defines the solutions of the team ("what to build"), a scrum master to facilitate the agile processes of the team ("build it quickly") while performing the team lead role to "build it right."

Together with bank leadership, the NAE team lead will manage day to day activities of the team to achieve its agile commitments. He/she is accountable to foster a pleasant working environment for a self-organizing team that is diverse in nature. This involves leading sprint planning as part of the group's agile working practice, helping align tasks with team members, resolving issues and ensuring the work of the team is of good quality. The role requires leadership and management skills to ensure team members are coached/mentored and provide feedback to improve their performance, capabilities and develop their career. Longer term strategic planning with the wider group will be required such as resource planning, handling conflict and competing priorities.

Required Skills
  • Minimum of 8 years experience as a team lead
  • Strong organizational skills to plan and grow the team
  • Experience of communicating potentially bad news with senior managers
  • Demonstrable confidence and negotiating skills
  • Examples of using metrics to provide transparency into activities
  • 8+ years experience in the network domain designing, building and operating large IP networks with experience in domains such as
    • WAN networks: Circuits / QoS / Traffic Analysis / MPLS / Segment Routing & BGP / Routing Policy
    • Data Centre Fabrics: BGP / OSPF / VSLAN / NVGRE
    • Security: IPSEC / VPNs / Firewalls / IPS / IDS / ADCs
    • IP Addressing: IPv4 / IPv6 / Summarisation & Aggregation / Address Policy
  • Experience of software development
    • Scripting: Python / Perl / Shell Scripting
    • Source Code Management: GIT / Subversion
    • Testing: Unit / Functional / Integration / Performance / Security
    • CICD Pipelines & Tools: Jenkins / Ansible Development
  • Experience of Agile working practices such as:
    • Retrospectives
    • Sprint Reviews
    • Sprint Planning
    • Backlog Refinement
    • Program Planning
Desired Skills
  • Familiarity with software architecture:
    • API design & architecture
    • DB deployment strategies
    • High Availability architecture
    • Micro service / Mesh architectures
  • Comfortable with virtual infrastructure
    • Virtual Machines
    • Hypervisors such as Xen / KVM / VMWare
    • Container experience with Docker / Kubernetes or OpenShift
  • Cross discipline infrastructure skills
    • Compute (Linux / Windows)
    • Storage
