SUMMARY

The Museum Education Specialist (Part-time) supports the National Museum of the United States Army (NMUSA) by providing programmatic support to the Experiential Learning Center (ELC). Works in the interactive museum and learning center designed to educate visitors, and particularly young people, about the history and culture of the United States Army and its many contributions to our country. The Experiential Learning Center (ELC) offers a unique and immersive learning space for all visitors to develop skills and have fun with Geography, Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (GSTEM) through education and Video Teleconferencing (VTC) learning programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Presents formal and informal education programs based on lesson plans provided by NMUSA.

Supports NMUSA's in-gallery education programs including Museum Cart Programs, Guided Tours, and VTC learning programs.

Supervises the following spaces in the ELC: Rally Point, Training Center, Operations Center and Fort Discover. Conducts guided tours.

Ensures that the ELC is open to the public each day by 9 AM by using the ELC Opening Checklist. In addition, ensures that the ELC is closed each day by using the ELC Closing Checklist and confirms that the facility, equipment and all materials are secured.

Maintains the ELC Weekly Visitation Log.

Ensures daily operations and visitor flow in the ELC.

Ensures all interactive kiosks and A/V elements are functioning properly. Reports any equipment malfunction to the Contracting Officer Representative (COR).

Operates the lead in-gallery and VTC learning programs, as needed, to support special programs in NMUSA that may occur outside the Museum's operating hours.

Daily cleans, disinfects and sanitizes the ELC, including all toys, door handles, computer kiosks, touchscreens and monitors by following the ELC Disinfectant and Sanitization Protocol.

Completes the DoD Cyber Awareness Challenge Training (formerly Information Assurance Awareness Training) before issuance of network access.

Completes all required training for Anti-Terrorism (AT), Threat Awareness Reporting, Security Policies and Directives, and all other training provided by the NMUSA. Wears ID badge at all times. In addition, obtains and carries a Common Access Card (CAC) at all times.

Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor's instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.

Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.

Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and co-workers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and Human Resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions as the best of own ability.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of one (1) year of teaching experience in a classroom, museum, or historic site teaching individuals between the ages of five (5) to eighteen (18) years old.

Ability to organize educational and public outreach programs such as tours, workshops and lectures.

Excellent organization skills with ability to manage effectively multiple projects and priorities.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Exposed to general office noise with computers printers and light traffic.
