Job Description Summary:
Software engineers at PayPal's core payments product development team develop innovative solutions and high-quality products that are capable of making any kind of payments of a two sided network system. Our engineers solve some of the most complex technical problems in the world of connected payments across all business units, including PayPal, Braintree, Venmo, Paydiant and others. We are looking for the highest levels of technical talent and programming skills, as well as a keen desire to deeply understand our products and services to push our technology forward with respect to functionality, performance, reliability, and scalability. You'll work alongside the best and the brightest engineering talent in the industry. We have opportunities in a wide range of areas for building highly scalable, available, and consistent distributed software systems including development, design, recon, tools, utility APIs. As a core participant of your team, you'll estimate engineering efforts, prioritize projects, plan implementations, and triage production issues. You need to be dynamic, collaborative, and curious as we build new experiences, improve existing products in distributed systems

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Application development for high-volume payment systems
  • Create applications using React/Java and other technologies
  • Partner closely with cross functional teams in design, product and other business units
  • Ensure quality using standard metrics
  • Working with operations teams to ensure applications and services are highly available, scalable, and reliable

Basic Requirements:
  • 7+ years if experience in application development
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (Masters preferred)
  • Proficiency in Java (preferably with react)
  • Very strong foundational knowledge in Object-Oriented Design Principles, Data Structures, Algorithms, and Software Engineering practices for quality, observability, and troubleshooting
  • Basic knowledge of web technologies (such as HTTP, HTML/DOM, JavaScript, CSS, AJAX) will be beneficial
  • Understanding around concepts like Web Services, SOA, REST APIs
  • Understanding of messaging infrastructure
  • Basic understanding of data modeling
  • A constant desire to grow, learn, and explore new things
  • Understanding or payments processing is a plus
