A.T. Still University's Missouri School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ATSU-MOSDOH) is seeking an exempt Director - Dentistry in the Community at the St. Louis Dental Center. The position reports to the Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs and Advanced Dental Education and is responsible for developing and directing courses, projects, seminars, and participation opportunities related to the Dentistry in the Community program in Kirksville, MO and in St. Louis, MO. The Director - Dentistry in the Community is also responsible for developing and managing ICSP programs with community health centers in Missouri and the midwest region.

The position is 85% Administration and 15% Instructional. The instructional portion of this job description includes teaching the three Dentistry in the Community courses (DIC D2, DIC D3, and DIC D4).

This position will be housed at the St. Louis Dental Center, and the majority of the job duties will take place in St. Louis. However, some travel to Kirksville is required.

Major Job Duties

  1. Supervise, train, develop, and direct Dentistry in the Community Coordinators. Act on employee problems, delegate work, and maintain work standards and quality.
  2. Develop and maintain community partnerships in Kirksville, St. Louis and Dexter.
  3. Supervise multiple programs: Dentistry in the Community and the ICSP programs.
  4. Manage Dentistry in the Community course budget, apply for grants and solicit gifts in kind to support outreach events.
  5. Write and administer grants that fund community service programs for second, third, and fourth year dental students.
  6. Develop reports biannually on the accomplishments and outcomes of Dentistry in the Community.
  7. Evaluate Dentistry in the Community courses and programs.
  8. Contribute in the development of Commission on Dental Accreditation documents and reports.
  9. Develop, revise and improve programs, assignments, syllabi for Dentistry in the Community lectures which are embedded
    within the Oral Healthcare Delivery Course.
  10. Evaluate student performance on assignments, community involvement, and professionalism.
  11. Direct activities with dental students related to community projects, participation opportunities and module requirements,
    concerns, and problems.
  12. Direct activities with community partners for student involvement in community activities.
  13. Develop and manage ICSP rotation affiliation agreements, supervision requirements, budgets, funding, insurance coverage,
    and institutional review board applications for community projects.
  14. Direct and mentor students in the development of public health concepts and implementation of community projects. Guide students and serve as a resource for development, execution, completion and evaluation of student projects.
  15. Develop and maintain a database for Dentistry in the Community activities and outcomes.
  16. Maintain community project files with progress notes, progress reporting schedules, and student credit.
  17. Ensure completion of module grading, assignments, evaluations, and community commitments.
  18. Oversee and contribute to additional MOSDOH and ATSU community projects and events, such as GKAS and MO Mission
    of Mercy.
  19. Contribute to relevant MOSDOH and ATSU committees and liaison with stakeholders promoting and advocating oral health
    literacy and access to care such as the Missouri Coalition for Oral Health, Missouri Dental Director’s Office, and other public health officials.
  20. Serve as a faculty advisor for student clubs.
  21. Represent ATSU MOSDOH and Dentistry in the Community by presenting and/or attending at local, regional and national
    conferences.
  22. Collaborate with other ATSU schools to create interprofessional/interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
  23. Collaborate with Institutional Advancement, Institutional Review Board, Sponsored Programs, and Controller’s Office to
    implement University policies within Dentistry in the Community.
  24. Plan and implement Dentistry in the Community strategies and support MOSDOH’s overall strategic decisions. Ensure
    Dentistry in the Community works in accordance with goals of ATSU and MOSDOH.
  25. Maintain professional and organization customs and enforce ethical practices among employees.
  26. Participate in research as appropriate and apply for service grants.
  27. Other duties as assigned.

Skills/Requirements
  • Masters in Education, Public Health, or Health related field
