Basic Job Functions:

This candidate will provide leadership for an accident-free workplace and the continuous improvement of the Nucor culture. Responsible for providing technical expertise to the entire Melt Shop and Maintenance group with regard to mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Integrate new systems into the Melt Shop and modify existing equipment and practices to improve production and maintenance processes. Manage capital expenditures, new construction, and process improvements. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering

Detailed Selection Criteria:

• Occupational Safety - Using knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, strategies, and judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws and regulations to promote standards as well as working to continuously improve processes to ensure safety of all individuals
• Engineering and Technology - Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to work at hand
• Maintenance Systems and Techniques - Knowledge of servicing, repairing, adjusting, and testing machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment
• Mechanical Knowledge - Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and/or maintenance
• Spatial Understanding - Ability to read prints and apply information to end use and/or awareness of physical surroundings and understanding objects in 3D space
• Initiative - Being proactive with seeking out work that needs to be done and being willing to take on responsibilities and challenges.
• Attention to Detail - Thorough in accomplishing tasks, no matter how small they may be, and taking care to make sure that expectation are met
• Teamwork - Working as part of a coordinated effort with others to achieve a common goal

Preferred Qualifications:

• Mechanical design with emphasis on power transmission components
• Sound knowledge and use of Solid Works and Autocad
• Five to Seven years work experience in heavy equipment or manufacturing
• Process improvement background using statistical analysis
