The Barre VT BESS team includes commercial, engineering, and operational personnel. About the role:

WEG Electric Corp. has a great opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer II to join our BESS team in Vermont. This position will be responsible for the d evelopment, verification, implementation and sustaining of inverters and electrical assemblies for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to meet both the needs of the current utility scale market and to inform the future needs of the market.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design machine parts, power cabinet layouts and assemblies using Solidworks.
  • Specify geometric dimensions and tolerance (Y14.5M) and perform assembly stack up analysis.
  • Work with ANSI drawing standards and AWS welding standards to create drawings.
  • Prepare product development documentation using PLM software.
  • Develop component specifications through collaboration with vendors.
  • Specify equipment, materials and components with oversight from senior engineers.
  • Layout/draft piping and mechanical systems.
  • Check drawings.
  • Perform thermal analysis involving multiple forms of heat transfer.
  • Prepare for and lead design reviews.
  • Provide commissioning and testing assistance.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned.

Education:
  • BS Mechanical Engineering required.


Knowledge / training:
  • Able to work both independently and in a multi-disciplinary team of engineers to design mechanical systems.
  • Methodical approach to problem solving.
  • Capable of organizing and retrieving historic data.
  • Clear verbal and written communication.
  • Able to meet agreed project milestones having considered and planned the project activities.
  • Thorough knowledge of 3D solid modelling software (Solidworks preferred).
  • Familiarity with mechanical and safety standards related to large machinery and grid connected machinery.
  • Familiarity with weldments and casting non-destructive testing methods.
  • Thorough knowledge of MS Office applications, including Access, Word and Excel.

Experience:

Minimum of 2 years' combined preferred experience in the following:
  • Electrical assembly mechanical systems design.
  • Mechanical design, integration, testing, of power system parts.
  • Working in a Manufacturing environment assessing non-conformities both from the factory and the field.
  • Working within a Quality Management System.
