Job Info

General Description

Gibbs & Cox (G&C) is establishing a Systems Engineering (SE) department to complement our ship design efforts. Critical to this department is the ability to support "Digital Ship" design with Model Based System Engineering (MBSE). The future of SE efforts will be driven by and inextricably integrated with MBSE. G&C's use of MBSE will be far more expansive than as a substitute for DOORs, and will be used as an integration environment for Functional/Behavioral models, Performance models, Structural/Component models, specification development, and production. The objective is to develop comprehensive "System" models.

General Duties

Essential responsibilities include:

  • Defining functionality early in the development cycle.
  • Capturing and modeling system requirements and behaviors.
  • Managing diverse sets of interfaces.
  • Ensuring the efficient application of systems engineering best practices to in-flight and future projects at all phases of the product delivery lifecycle (PDL).
  • Working with the project team to re-plan work to reflect efficient application of systems engineering best practices
  • Developing/improving model based system engineering processes and tools to optimize technical efficiency and capability.
  • Presenting actionable recommendations, complementary to existing engineering, quality and program standards.
  • Coordinating the development of technical reports and other technical products to meet applicable standards, specifications, and regulatory body requirements (ABS/USCG/IEEE/HARA/etc.).
  • Modeling and producing use cases, strategy concepts, system-of-system designs, behaviors, requirements, reliability, and verification work products.
  • Establishing yourself as an industry expert in the application of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) techniques to the integration of autonomous/unmanned systems (UxS).
  • Building a UxS MBSE center of excellence within Gibbs & Cox.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Background in maritime safety concept, failure mode, common analysis tools such as FMEA
  • Experience / qualifying expertise with MBSE using and/or building behavioral (analytical ordescriptive) models of a system (SysML specific experience preferred)
  • Experience with US Navy ship designs.
  • Experience working in large team environments & interfacing with highly technical points of contact for component systems / subsystems
  • Experience with using requirements, PLM, and PLE toolsets such as Teamcenter, DOORS, etc.
  • Certified Systems Engineering Professional
  • Experience in Functional Safety / ISO 26262 / STPA or equivalent work products and methods
