Summary:

  • Graham-White, a Wabtec Company, is a leading innovator for various products used in the freight and transit rail business segments, as well as the transit bus markets. Products such as air drying and filtration equipment, pneumatic valves, locomotive parking brakes, sanding equipment, and gauges. The Material Handler will interact with customers and suppliers on the frontline and requires someone with flexibility to perform non-routine tasks as needed and who is self-directed and able to work without regular supervision. This is a Monday through Thursday, day shift position with occasional overtime required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Makes outside runs for pickup or delivery of product to suppliers and/or customers as directed.
  • Makes inter-plant runs ensuring parts, fixtures, etc, including collecting of baskets, pallets, wooden and cardboard boxes, drums are moved to appropriate area(s).
  • Moves castings, bar stock to appropriate locations.
  • Loads and unloads material for suppliers, ensuring proper paperwork flows to appropriate area(s).
  • Empties staged chip choppers and returns them to area on daily basis, along with notification of appropriate personnel that large outside collection hoppers need to be picked up, and ensures coolant is drained from them.
  • Assists with coolant recycling, which may include maintaining equipment.
  • Informs appropriate personnel of upcoming renewal of truck inspection and tags.
  • Reports malfunctions of material handling equipment to appropriate personnel.
  • Stocks office paper in appropriate area(s).
  • Ensures that the department's housekeeping standards are met, promotes and follows all company safety policies and guidelines.
  • Looks for and offers suggestions for improvements of Material Handling functions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Prior material handler experience preferred
Necessary Skills and Qualifications:
  • Valid Virginia Driver's License, with a clean driving record
  • Valid Forklift Driver License
  • Must be able to drive a manual 5 speed truck
  • Must be proficient in weighing/measuring incoming raw material
  • Must be able to follow all safety protocols when operating equipment and machinery
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English, in order to interact with suppliers, customers, and co-workers
Work Environment:
  • The employee will normally work in a production floor environment, with regular exposure to loud noises, heat/humidity and dust or vapors with occasional exposure to cold temperatures.
  • The employee will be regularly be required to stand, walk, handle materials, reach outward and upward, climb, bend, and lift up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally.
