Area of Accountability:
Accountability in this role will be to provide technical support and guidance to improving the forging process in and around automation systems and tooling. There will be the need to update and create manufacturing and quality engineering documents and procedures. At times work will require a more technical nature which will involve engineering skills to be used for interpreting and identifying opportunities for improvement. Coordination with production and conducting manufacturing tests on machines and/or processes to meet safety, quality, throughput, and cost objectives.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for manufacturing and process engineering activities associated with precision metal forming.
  • Support equipment and tooling activities associated with precision forging processes.
  • Design and develop forging processes and tools for new and existing products
  • Manage engineering changes as they occur.
  • Work with cross functional teams (Forging, Tooling, and Maintenance) for engineering solutions
  • Develop and maintain process documentation - control plans, PFMEA, PPAP, Picture Process Sheets, Tooling Sheets, etc.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with plant leadership regarding status of equipment/process downtime, scrap, and project related activities
  • Develop and maintain work instruction documentation
  • Provide technical training to production team members to improve skill levels within the teams
  • Review, analyze, design and implement revisions to improve existing processes for increased efficiency (throughput, tool life, etc.)
  • Perform equipment/process failure root cause analyses
  • Ensure a common approach to solving machinery and or process problems, through the development of best practices.
  • Evaluate tooling, special test and inspections concepts and equipment
  • Lead manufacturing technical support, coordinate cost reduction activities, and support corrective action activities
Education and Training
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology or other relevant degreed program with 2-4 years minimum experience in a high-volume manufacturing (preferably forging) environment
Qualifications:
  • Proficient with AutCAD and Creo 3D modeling
  • Proficient with GD&T, Process Diagrams, PFMEA, Control Plans
  • Hands-on experience in tool & die methods is desirable.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
  • Strong decision-making skills, with the ability to grasp technical concepts quickly
  • A hands-on approach is essential, with ownership of products and processes
  • Must be a team player with good communication skills, written and verbal
  • Self-motivated striving to find lean solutions to improvements and issues
  • Flexible work schedule required
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
  • DEFORM experience a plus
