The Kummer Institute seeks a motivated and talented individual to manage and coordinate outreach and engagement. The Manager of Outreach and Engagement should be well-organized and possess a sound knowledge of event management and community engagement. Excellent communication and attention to detail skills are vital in this role. This individual must be able to work independently, and a high degree of professionalism is a must as this individual will arrange and host events with important stakeholders including the chancellor, the Kummer Institute Foundation Board of Directors, community leaders, alumni, donors, and corporate partners.

This individual will manage, plan, and execute all Kummer Institute related events including but not limited to Kummer Institute research center receptions and openings, Kummer Foundation Board of Directors meetings, Fred Kummer Day, Kummer Vanguard Scholars Kick-off and celebration events, community engagement events, and Kummer Institute Road Show events. The Manager of Outreach and Engagement will create and maintain relationships with community leaders to elevate and advance the Kummer Institute's mission and vision.

Key responsibilities

  • Responsible for every part of event preparation, such as choosing venues, approving menus, developing seating plans, and evaluating success afterward.
  • Coordinate attendance of important stakeholders including the chancellor, Kummer Foundation Board of Directors, community leaders, alumni, donors, and corporate partners.
  • Plan and execute 4-6 Kummer Road show events annually in major cities across the US. These events feature a cocktail reception, followed by a presentation and Q/A with campus leaders, and a private dinner with key donors.
  • Work closely with Kummer Institute Research Center directors to plan and execute events and develop community engagement strategies.
  • Plan all aspects of Fred Kummer Day, a campus-wide celebration honoring Fred Kummer and his generosity to Missouri S&T.
  • Plan and execute Kummer Foundation Board of Directors meetings and associated committee meetings as needed.
  • Work closely with the Kummer Director of Student Programs to plan and execute kick-off and corporate engagement events.
  • Manage and oversee events on the day of, including problem-solving, welcoming guests, directing event set-up, communicating with staff, and organizing vendors.
  • Work closely with Kummer Institute Communications staff to create effective outreach for each event.
  • Manage event invitations and keep track of RSVPs.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
      Minimum Qualifications

      A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

      Preferred Qualifications
      • A bachelor's degree in marketing, business, communications, humanities, liberal arts, psychology or any degree program that requires significant interpersonal communications work, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
      • At least five years of experience as an event planner. Well-organized with excellent multi-tasking abilities.
      • Enthusiastic, friendly, and a great sense of humor.
      • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
      • Experience planning university and academic events.
      • Experience with preparing PowerPoint presentations, and photo and graphic design software such as Adobe Photoshop and InDesign.
