Purpose

Avangrid Renewables is seeking a motivated Manager, Long Term Fundamentals to join the Market Fundamentals group in Portland Oregon or Boston Massachusetts. The Market Fundamentals group analyzes the energy markets across North America, maintains up-to-date market models, and develops comprehensive market views and forecasts (energy, basis, capacity, REC, ancillary services). These views and forecasts are key drivers for investment decisions (onshore/offshore wind, solar, storage, etc.), hedging activities, and development of corporate strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the effort to analyze the energy landscape across North America including policies, market rules, power grid, and technology trend and their impact to renewable business
  • Generate comprehensive market views on renewable/storage demand, market conditions, competitiveness, growth drivers, revenue streams, risk factors, technology innovation, and strategic opportunities
  • Maintain up-to-date forecast models and perform market simulations/analyses to develop forecasts and sensitivities
  • Lead the internal review and adoption of the forward price curves, develop justification for the committee's approval, and support the application of the curves in different business cases
  • Prepare senior management briefing materials, communicate with internal stakeholders, and ensure that Avangrid has consistent and cohesive outlook in the long term
  • Collaborate with investment office, origination, policy, and other internal teams to support various projects by performing revenue, basis, curtailment, negative price protection, PPA, risk, and policy impact analyses
  • Manage data and service subscriptions, manage relationships with service providers to facilitate effective information exchange and Q&A sessions
  • Develop other staff on the team, collaborate with nodal team and global team


Skills and Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Economics, Finance, or a related quantitative field
  • 5+ years of experience in US power fundamentals, renewables markets, or other related areas
  • Experience with production cost and capacity expansion modelling software such as AURORA PROMOD, PLEXOS, Gridview, GE MAPS, etc.
  • Demonstrated understanding of one or more wholesale markets: CAISO, PJM, MISO, ERCOT, ISO-NE, NYISO, SPP, or bilateral markets
  • Knowledge of REC market and forecast
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with both business and technical personnel at all organizational levels
  • Ability to synthesize a market view based on research and fundamentals
  • Self-motivated, strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong team skills to collaborate with team members with diverse background in a fast-paced industry
