Job Description Summary
Manager of Food Defense (FD) and Intentional Adulteration (IA) programs will be responsible for understanding FSMA requirements for Food Defense and Intentional Adulteration. The individual in this role will be the Lamb Weston subject matter expert and ensure program compliance as cross the supply chain. The Manager will assist and train personnel at our production facilities to ensure that they have programs in place to meet all the FDA's requirements. They will assist the plants with risk assessments, determining Key Activity Types and demonstrating appropriate measures of protection. They will manage programs for routine readiness checks, mock scenarios and program enhancements as a result of such. They will also be responsible for creating a readiness performance tracker for all North American Lamb Weston facilities or any others who would supply product to the US market. They will be a crisis management team member.

Job Description

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own and execute all corporate programs for compliance with Food Defense and Intentional Adulteration as defined in F.S.M.A of 2011.
  • Become a FDQI = Food Defense Qualified Individual through training provided by FDA or other certified training body.
  • Responsibility for providing, creating and maintaining internal training/refresher programs for all of the Lamb Weston facilities required to have a Food Defense and/or IA program.
  • Establish procedures to ensure facilities remain compliant to FSMA and ensure plans are modified/adjusted accordingly to known threats.
  • Work directly with each manufacturing site to review their programs, conduct risk assessments, conduct readiness drills to practice what if scenarios
  • Create and manage the Lamb Weston Food Defense and IA scorecard to ensure management knowledge of current status of programs
  • Be the lead interface with Corporate Security and any other person(s) responsible for incident and crisis management coordination in the case of an occurrence of a Food Defense or Intentional adulteration event at one of our manufacturing sites.
  • Become a member of two industry and/or government groups who specialize in these specific prevention programs in order that Lamb Weston remains externally connected and can learn from others.
  • Develop relationships and understanding of the governing body structures as to be able to participate in FDA, FBI, and DHS (Department of Homeland Security) public meetings on current threats to the food supply
  • Key coordinator with these agencies in the case of an incident, having developed appropriate connections to these agencies so we know who and where to go for incident reporting and resolution.
  • Preparation of incident reporting to the secretary of the Board of Directors and the CEO of Lamb Weston
  • Directly support audits at facilities, through visiting plants when FDA or other contracted inspector visits to review programs
  • Responsible for the development and administration of a readiness performance tracker for all North American Lamb Weston facilities or any others who would supply product to the US market.
  • Member of the crisis management team.
  • Monitor new technical developments, including and understanding competitive approaches, technology and business applicability.

Job Qualifications

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • BS/MS in a Biological science, Food Science, Animal Science, Veterinary Science or other technically related field. (Microbiology, Chemistry, etc.)
  • 5 to 7 years of food industry or related laboratory or governmental agency.
  • Background understanding of biology, chemistry or other life sciences, as demonstrated with a BS or MS degree.
  • Basic of understanding of food production.
  • Highly motivated to create programs and manage others who do not directly report to them.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing.
  • Ability and skill to create and conduct training programs for corporate and plant based individuals around FD and IA.
  • Policy development and implication to food business is highly valued.
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment or in an applied research environment is preferred.
  • Monitor new technical developments including understanding competitive approaches, technology and business applicability
  • Supervise non-direct report personnel
  • A significant amount of travel will be required for the first 2 years of the role to make connections, complete training and visit facilities to conduct on the ground risk assessments. (Approximately 35% travel)

BUSINESS EXPERIENCE

  • 5 to 7 years of food industry or related laboratory or governmental agency. Policy development and implication to food business is highly valued.
  • Worked in a laboratory environment or in an applied research environment is preferred.

EDUCATION:

  • BS/MS in a Biological science, Food Science, Animal Science, Veterinary Science or other technically related field. (Microbiology, Chemistry, etc.)
