Required Qualifications:

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in EHS or a related technical field (Engineering or Life Sciences) with 10+ years of EHS experience AND at least 2-5 years of EHS management experience.
  • Experience leading and developing a team EHS professionals (3 or more)
  • Medical device or pharmaceutical manufacturing experience
  • Strong understanding of EHS management systems and ISO 14001 and 45001 regulations
  • Ability to translate, statistically analyze data, and effectively report problems through written and/or graphical formats.
  • Ability to use Lean Manufacturing and OPEX tools to make the EHS program and EHS Team more efficient.
  • Proficient use of MS Office suite and EHS IT systems
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to design and write effective EHS program documents.
  • In depth knowledge of EHS regulations and regulatory requirements applicable to a large medical device manufacturing plant.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • EHS professional credential from accrediting organization (e.g. CIH, CSP, CHMM)
  • Master's degree in EHS or technical field (Engineering or Life Sciences)
  • ISO 45001 / 14001 auditing experience and experience with initial certification of manufacturing sites.
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem solving ability, experienced in six sigma problem solving techniques.
  • Ability to adapt well to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances.

Functional Description

Manages the environmental, industrial, health and safety regulation compliance for one or multiple facilities. Oversees the development, planning, and implementation of environmental, health and safety policies; develops procedures (chemical safety, ergonomics, illness and injury prevention, and building safety) used throughout the company. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to environmental safety and handles all contact with appropriate agencies. Oversees licensed hazardous and radioactive waste disposal and monitors waste handling. Develops and oversees company training programs for employees in areas such as compliance training, lab/plant inspection, hazardous material handling, emergency response, industrial hygiene, and life safety. May be the point of contact for emergency personnel. Ensures appropriate corrective action is taken where health and safety hazards exist. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

Scope

  • Receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals.
  • Provides guidance to team members / supporting employees using established company policies.
  • Frequently interacts with subordinate supervisors, customers, and/or functional peer group managers, normally involving matters between functional areas, other company divisions or units, or customers and the company.

Judgement

  • Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors.
  • Follows processes and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  • Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results will add to costs and may impact the short-term goals of the organization.

Management

  • Manages the coordination of department/functional activities with responsibility for results, methods and staffing.
  • In some instances may be responsible for a functional area or contracted / outsourced employees or matrixed reports.
  • People management responsibilities include hiring / terminations, performance reviews, career development coaching and compensation decisions.

Experience and Education

  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree with 8-12 years of industry experience.
  • 2-5 years of previous management or lead experience.
