Maintenance Specialist, Boathouse - $14.00+/hour

Cottonwood Cove Resort and Marina, located with the Lake Mead National Recreation Area and managed by Guest Services, is now hiring!

Pay: $14.00 - $17.00/hour

Cottonwood Cove is home to the Cottonwood Cove Motel, an RV Park, a café, and a full service marina. Our ideal candidate is someone who enjoys working closely with people. JOB SUMMARY

The Houseboat Maintenance staff is responsible for performing mechanical repairs on houseboats including electrical, plumbing, sewage, heating/cooling) systems, appliances, accessories and structures to keep boats in safe and optimal working condition.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Inspect entire interior and exterior of houseboats/small boats after use by customers for necessary mechanical repairs to (electrical, plumbing, sewage, heating/cooling) systems, appliances (ovens, refrigerators, microwaves, radios, TV's, etc.), accessories (railings, hot tubs, slides, etc.), and/or structural failures.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical failures in (electrical, plumbing, sewage, heating/cooling) systems, appliances, accessories and/or structural failures aboard rental houseboats/small boats both in the harbor and/or out on the lake.
  • Perform repairs to (electrical, plumbing, sewage, heating/ cooling) systems, appliances (ovens, refrigerators, microwaves, radios, TV's, etc.) accessories (railings, hot tubs, slides, etc.) and/or structures on houseboats/small boats in the harbor and/or out on the lake as needed.
  • Perform preventative inspections and routine maintenance on all small and large appliances aboard houseboats/small boats (if applicable), such as propane bbq grills, refrigerators, ovens, microwaves, etc.
  • Perform preventative inspections and routine maintenance such as battery checks, replace burned out light bulbs, etc.
  • Read and follow service manuals, manufacturers' service specifications and service bulletins to perform maintenance repairs.
  • Perform emergency chase calls during the day and/or at night (nighttime in emergency situations) in response to requests for repairs to boats on lake, fill out chase call log and return sheet.
  • Fill out purchase orders and work orders accurately and thoroughly.
  • Notify supervisor (by giving completed purchase order) of the need to order needed parts and/or accessories to complete repairs.
  • Take and record accurate inventory of all stock and accessories, as required.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of all safety procedures.
  • Maintain a clean work area, organize and clean tools as needed, after each use, keep parts and supply inventories organized.
  • Perform repair to walls, ceiling, woodwork, cabinets, etc., as needed.
  • Perform orientations to customers for all boats within rental fleet, as needed.
  • Perform work in a manner protective of human health and the environment and promptly report any deviations of environmental policy to their supervisor.
  • Be aware of and participate, where necessary, in the achievement of environmental objectives and implementation of the environmental management system.
  • Provide excellent customer service, communicate courteously and effectively with customers at all times and promote professionalism and a high standard of excellence.
  • Operate and dock all vessels within the fleet in a safe manner.
  • Maintain and convey a thorough knowledge of safety and environmental requirements.
  • Handle and/or notify management of hazards or problems in a timely manner.
  • Know and follow Emergency Procedures and handle emergency phone calls as necessary.
  • Know and follow all company, Environmental, Health, and Safety Management Program policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with customers, Park Service, and co-workers by VHF radio.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work.
  • Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Any other duties as assigned.
  • Provide information to customers regarding resort, general area, and resort activities.
  • Provide information to customers regarding vessels and vessel rental procedures.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • High School courses in small engine repair, auto mechanics, machine shop, electrical, science and/or math helpful
  • Minimum one year of work experience in houseboat maintenance.
  • Previous work experience operating boats and/or boat rental fleets.
  • Previous work experience with and knowledge of small hand tools, power tools, electrical diagnostic tools and davit/boom.
  • Previous customer service work experience with heavy public contact, preferred.
  • Read, write, understand and speak English to communicate with customers and co-workers, read, interpret and follow service manuals, manufacturer's service specifications and service bulletins, inspect, diagnose and make repairs and perform preventative maintenance.
  • Knowledge of safe boat operation including Boater's Safety Card.
  • Able and willing to work on-call as needed.
  • Knowledge of all systems aboard boats, including heating, cooling, plumbing, electrical, water, propane, pumps, etc.
  • Knowledge of small and large appliances servicing and repair skills.
  • Knowledge of marine toilet operation and repair skills.
  • Knowledge of proper use of and ability to use chemical cleaners, degreasers, oils and additives.
  • Carpentry knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to drive and dock all vessels in the rental fleet.
  • Knowledge of the proper use and skills to use mechanical, carpentry, plumbing tools, electrical diagnostic tools, small hand tools, power tools, and davit/boom.
  • Must own essential small hand tools (screwdrivers, hammers, pliers, wrenches).
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Mechanical aptitude, ability to diagnose and make repairs quickly and reliably.
  • Math skills to make arithmetic calculations.
  • Ability to maintain organized records.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Climb stairs and walk on uneven, sometimes slippery surfaces.
  • Balance/stabilize, stand/remain upright and walk on uneven and moving surfaces (marina docks and boats on water).
  • Step into and onto boats from docks and back to docks safely and repetitively.
  • Kneel, bend, stoop and squat repetitively throughout shift.
  • Twist and turn repetitively.
  • Swim 500 feet and tread water (with a life vest if needed) for at least 5 minutes.
  • Reach forward, overhead and down frequently.
  • Work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions including extreme cold, hot and stormy weather.
  • Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less) and distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more) and ability to adjust focus.
  • Carry and use a VHF radio.
  • Perform physical and manual labor.
  • Ability to use chemical cleaners, degreasers, oils and additives.
  • Use electrical, mechanical, carpentry and plumbing tools and equipment such as small hand tools, power tools, electrical diagnostic tools and davit/boom.
  • Work in various positions bending over, crawling under and standing over objects to complete repairs.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds on a daily basis.
