Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to operate all machines and equipment of the Strip/Lathe area designed to manufacture cylinder bases to the required specifications. This is to include the areas of machining, dechrome, and unboxing.

Essential Responsibilities, Accountabilities & Results

• Inspect and prepare cylinder for the cylinder machining process including processing tag.
• Prepare cylinder shafts and rack sleeve cylinders for processing as required.
• Setup and operate the Dechrome and Lathe machines.
• Inspect, Confirm, and Record quality characteristics of processed cylinder as required.
• Consistent and accurate measurement of cylinder diameters using micrometers.
• Prepare and Deliver completed cylinder to subsequent process steps.
• Complete quality assurance documents and/or digital entries when applicable.
• Complete tool changes and adjustments.
• Comprehend the functions of the Dechrome sub-systems including pneumatics and emission control.
• Maintain required levels of consumables in the work area.
• Acquire cylinders from supplying processes including unbox area as needed.
• Calibrate quality inspection equipment.
• Gather and prepare metal turnings for recycling.
• Complete overhead crane inspections as required.
• Safely move cylinders using overhead crane system.
• Comply with PPE and hazardous waste materials when applicable.
• Complete shift responsibilities for production maintenance and housekeeping.

Educational & Experience Minimum Requirements

This position requires the following knowledge and skills:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as manuals, safety rules, etc.
• Ability to speak effectively with employees of the organization.
• Ability to complete basic math computation and measurement conversions
• Ability to work independently and identify equipment problems.

The following knowledge and skills are not essential but preferred:

• Work experience in a manufacturing or production environment.

General Requirements

• Comply with Company EH&S policies and procedures through training and process understanding.
• Demonstrate ability to meet department standards for quality and quantity of completed work.
• Show aptitude and ability to operate multiple machine centers.
• Work scheduled hours as well as overtime when required.

• Frequent physical exertion when pushing/pulling rolling cylinder carts weighing from 50 to 1500 lbs.
• Infrequent lifting of tooling (30-50 lbs.)
• Infrequent lifting of 30 gal. drums from floor to chest height to empty machine shavings
• Positioning of cylinders into machines and transport carts using overhead crane.
• Vision abilities include close vision in the inspection of the work.

Job is performed on the manufacturing floor among rotating equipment, potentially hazardous chemicals and moderate noise.
