Job Description: Loyola University Chicago's (LUC) Institute of Environmental Sustainability (IES) invites applications for one full-time teaching faculty position in Environmental Science. The successful candidate will start at the rank of Lecturer beginning in August 2019. This position is full-time, three-year renewable, non-tenure track faculty lecturer. We are seeking candidates with expertise in botany, soils, and environmental chemistry, but will consider applicants in any area of ecology or environmental science related to the IES mission (https://luc.edu/sustainability/about/mission/). IES is a leader in environmental sustainability. The Institute serves >350 majors and minors and offers undergraduate B.S. degrees in Environmental Science with options for concentrations in Food Systems & Sustainable Agriculture, Conservation & Restoration, and Public Health. IES also offers B. A. Degrees in Environmental Studies and Environmental Policy. The IES is housed within a state-of-the-art geo-thermally heated/cooled building complex containing a greenhouse, aquaponics facilities, a biodiesel production facility, teaching & research labs, environmental analysis lab, and a 'green' dormitory. The campus prioritizes sustainability with energy efficient LEED certified buildings, permeable pavement, green roof installations, and student-run urban gardens supplying the LUC Farmer's Market. The Loyola University Retreat & Ecology Campus (LUREC) has a 20-acre wetland restoration project, a 5-acre organic farm, 3-week summer courses, and is a venue for faculty and student research in sustainable agriculture, ecology, and wetland/woodland restoration. For more information about IES, please visit http://www.luc.edu/sustainability/

Qualifications: Candidates for the position must clearly demonstrate their potential for excellence in teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching introductory environmental science for both IES majors and non-majors, and teach intermediate-level courses focusing on botany, environmental chemistry and/or soil ecology. The successful candidate may also have the opportunity to develop courses in their specialty that enhance the IES curriculum. Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. degree in an area of ecology or environmental science prior to August 2019. Candidates with experience teaching undergraduate courses as the instructor of record will be given strongest consideration.
