The Carter G Woodson Institute for African American and African Studies Department is seeking candidates for a faculty wage Lecturer to teach a Swahili language course in the daytime, evening and or/online for the 2022-2023 academic year.

This is a wage position which is not eligible for leave or other benefits and is limited to 1500 hours of work in a year.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD in Swahili or related field
  • Native or near native fluency in Swahili
  • Committed to excellence in the teaching of Swahili language.
  • Knowledge of instructional technologies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching beginning and intermediate Swahili at the College or University level

Instructional duties and assignments may consist of one or more of the following:

  • Teaching one course in introductory or intermediate Swahili courses in the Fall and in the Spring semester
  • Preparation for on-line/distance-learning activities, syllabi, evaluation of students' work
  • Maintain accurate class and other records
  • Maintain office hours each week
  • Work cooperatively within the Department and University community.
