Position Summary

• With minimal direct supervision, prepares samples and performs testing according to established procedures and ASTM and ISO guidelines for product/process qualification, validation, FDA submissions, and legal requests.
• Utilizes a solid foundation in laboratory techniques, experience with techniques associated with a specific area such as chemistry or polymer science, and technical problem-solving skills.
• Possesses a thorough understanding of the theory underlying the tasks being performed and the ability to set up and operate complex equipment and/or instrumentation. Actively contributes in the planning of testing and interpretation of results.
• Writes reports with minimal direction.

Principal Responsibilities

1. Under minimal supervision, perform physical, thermal, and chemical sample preparation and testing on raw materials and finished products in accordance with established procedures and ASTM and ISO guidelines. Such testing includes tensile/elongation, moisture content, torque, thermal degradation, rheology, chemical testing, flow rate, pressure, vacuum, shore hardness, simulated aging, melt point determination, etc.

2. Provide training to other individuals who may be assigned to the laboratory on a regular or temporary basis.

3. Compile data and performs preliminary statistical analysis and data reduction utilizing specified statistical data analysis programs and software. Performs analyses and reports characterized by the use of independent judgment and assists internal customers in data interpretation.

4. Assist in the development and validation of test methods.

5. Assist in customer complaint investigations as requested by management.

6. Maintain lab supplies and place orders as needed.

7. Maintain lab equipment and instrumentation, schedule service or repairs and order parts when needed.

8. Complete lab reports as needed.

9. Maintain lab cleanliness and organization.

10. Participate in developing department strategic vision and improvement strategies.

11. Assist with portions of improvement or remediation projects.

12. Reads technical literature and attends seminars to maintain a broad knowledge of products and their testing techniques, technology, equipment, and/or instrumentation/systems.

13. Adhere to and ensure compliance of Teleflex's Code of Conduct, all company policies, rules, procedures, and standard housekeeping.

Education / Experience Requirements

Associates Degree in a scientific discipline, BS preferred

3-10 years of laboratory experience

Specialized Skills / Other Requirements

• Ability to wear a respirator
