Job Info

The University of Virginia (UVA) seeks a Lab and Research Technician in the laboratory of Bon Trinh. Ph.D., Tenure-track Assistant Professor of Pathology.

The broad areas of interest in Dr. Trinh's lab include: gene regulation by RNAs and proteins, modulation of gene-specific chromatin architecture, blood development, cancer and genetic diseases, therapeutic development. His lab employs a multidisciplinary approach, comprising biochemistry and cellular biology as well as global transcriptomic, epigenomic, and 3D chromatin structure analyses, using normal and cancer cells, and mouse models.

Research in the Trinh lab centers on protein- and RNA- mediated gene regulation via modulating chromatin architecture in the development and function of immune cells, particularly myeloid cells, a critical component of the body defense against infections, and how abnormalities in this regulation contribute to failure in myeloid cell maturation resulting in acute myeloid leukemia. The lab also investigates this molecular coordination in drug resistance and immune cell-cancer cell communications within the tumor microenvironment. The aims are to provide critical mechanistic insights into normal and malignant hematopoiesis, and to establish certain protein-RNA hubs as actionable therapeutic targets and molecular markers, contributing to the emerging field of precision medicine.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary research group that performs experimental and computational methods. Candidates with skills in molecular biology, cellular biology, and mouse models are highly desired. Junior candidates without these skills but has strong work ethic and learning spirit are also considered. Computational and statistical skills are the plus but not required.
