Description Position Overview/SummaryThe KUCO General Manager is responsible for the overall health and progress of a three-station radio network: KUCO 90.1 FM based in the Oklahoma City metro and two repeater stations, KBCW 91.9 FM in McAlester and KCSC 95.9 FM in Woodward. Founded in 1966, KUCO is a professional, Corporation for Public Broadcasting certified public radio station, and serves as Oklahoma's radio destination for the fine arts, supporting visual and performing arts through its programming and offering world news from the BBC. The station can be heard throughout Oklahoma and online worldwide. The General Manager manages a yearly budget of approximately $850,000, 70% of which must be raised from outside sources through grant writing, underwriting sales, two annual membership drives, and two secondary fiscal year and end-of-year campaigns. KUCO's current assets, including cash and equipment, are valued at approximately $3,000,000. The General Manager is responsible for capital campaigns such as the 2020 move to new studios at the UCO at Santa Fe Plaza facility in downtown Oklahoma City.The General Manager also takes a weekday on-air shift and hosts the weekly "Spotlight on the Arts" program, which currently airs live from the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. Position reports to Vice President for Communications and Public Affairs. The general schedule for this position is 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. **Note** Applicants must upload a cover letter and resume. Department Specific Essential Job Functions
  • Manages the station budget. This includes preparing requisitions in Banner and paying invoices and working with an outside accounting firm to prepare the Combined Annual Financial Report.
  • Supervises three full time and two part time employees as well as volunteers as needed.
  • Maintains a physical plant of two broadcast towers, two buildings, and 30 acres of land in Oklahoma City and transmitters and antennas located in McAlester and Woodward in addition to the studios at Santa Fe Plaza in Oklahoma City.
  • Maintains contractual relationships with outside engineering and underwriting companies as well as our Communications Law firm in Washington, D.C.
  • Serves ex officio as Executive Director of the KCSC Classical Radio Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit that exists to financially support the work of KUCO.
  • Engages in fundraising efforts to support general operations and special projects.
  • Supports programming by taking an on-air shift and hosting "Spotlight on the Arts."
  • Assists in the development of new programs, and evolution of current programming, to support both the performing and visual arts and the mission/vision of the University of Central Oklahoma.
  • Serves as the liaison from the station to the university, which includes seeking and implementing initiatives that connect the station and to the university's goals and community.
  • Must be proficient in operating on-air and production equipment and be able to do basic troubleshooting.
  • Files and maintains necessary reports with the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and Federal Communications Commission.
Qualifications Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Experience managing staff, particularly in a radio/broadcasting setting
  • Proficient in operating on-air and production equipment and be able to do basic troubleshooting
  • Able to serve as on-air radio talent
  • Basic accounting skills
  • Familiar with the regulations of the FCC, FAA and CPB
  • Experience in fundraising, grant writing and donor relations
Qualifications/Experience Required:
  • Requires a minimum bachelor's degree in communications, music or related field, as well as a minimum of five years' experience in radio broadcasting and/or non-profit management.
Qualifications/Experience Preferred: 
  • Master's degree preferred.
