Job Description

Junior Underwriters will review and assist in the underwriting of mortgage loans in accordance with established policies & procedures and appropriate guidelines. The primary focus of the Junior Underwriter will be to perform second look reviews on loan files.

Job Functions and Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Examples below:

  • Perform daily second look reviews and communicate the findings to the appropriate parties to keep the loans moving through the process to funding.
  • Assists Underwriters in reviewing and analyzing the reverse mortgage loan application to ensure eligibility, accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal and regulatory guidelines to minimize risk factors. (This includes but is not limited to the loan origination package, credit report, title report, appraisal, Power of Attorney, Trusts, & Conservatorships.)
  • Review all required loan data, reports, and inspections to insure the collateral is acceptable to investor, company, and FHA guidelines.
  • Prepares and completes all required paperwork and forms in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Sign off conditions in a timely manner set by management.
  • Elevate loan level issues and problems as needed to Underwriters.
  • May be requested to make recommendations for improving Internal Audit's policies and practices
  • Manage loans by using all functions using company mortgage operations software
  • Conducts work within company SLAs to ensure timely response times
  • Maintain high level of customer service and communication with other departments
Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience:
  • Two to four years mortgage loan processing or Underwriting experience. Government loan experience preferred.
  • Thorough working knowledge of real estate documentation, policies, compliance, and procedures
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Proficient on computer programs required for position
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
  • Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds
