Job Description

Since 1999, Eurofins Genomics Blue Heron(Blue Heron Biotech) has been a pioneer in the gene synthesis industry and has delivered tens of millions of base pairs of perfectly accurate genes to thousands of customers worldwide using its proprietary GeneMaker® multi-technology platform. In March 2019 Blue Heron was acquired by Eurofins Scientific and became a partner of the Eurofins Genomics US division.

Blue Heron Biotech is searching for an IT Systems Administratorto join our team. At Blue Heron, we rely on our IT systems to power our GeneMaker® multi-technology platform. We're seeking an experienced systems administrator who's eager to grow his or her technological skills in the biotech industry. In this role, the successful individual will protect our critical information, systems, and assets, build solutions, and implement new software and hardware in the development of an overall IT strategy.

Objectives of this Role

  • Maintain and develop essential IT operations, including operating systems, network, security tools, applications, servers, websites, email systems, phones, laptops, desktops, software, and hardware.
  • Own projects, solutions, and key responsibilities within a larger business initiative.
  • Partner with internal and external entities to communicate project status and activities.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and enhance architectures for user and server systems, network, and security.
  • Perform routine/scheduled audits of all systems, including all backups.
  • Perform server administration tasks including user/group administration, access control, group policies, print services, event log monitoring and error troubleshooting, while ensuring system architecture components integrate seamlessly.
  • Identify, procure, develop, install, upgrade, and maintain internal infrastructure including, laptop and desktop computers (Windows), VMWare virtual hosted servers (Linux), routers, switches, firewalls, printers, phones, intranet, LANs, WANs, and VPNs.
  • Work with application developers to implement new features as needed.
  • Work with Eurofins IT team on various initiatives.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in technology or computer science.
  • A proven track record of developing and implementing IT solutions to support on-going business improvement initiatives.
  • Experience with or working knowledge of programming languages and operating systems including Windows, CentOS, and Red Hat Linux; current equipment and technologies, enterprise backup and recovery procedures, system performance-monitoring tools, Microsoft Active Directory domains, and VMWare virtualization.
  • Experience in project management, application design and integration.
  • Ability to work on site and remotely.
Preferred Qualifications
  • System administration and IT certifications in Linux, Microsoft, or other network related fields.
  • Able to lift at least 50 lbs.
